classes that are protected by EEOC
The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) is a federal body that enforces laws prohibiting job discrimination. The body is involved in investigating lawsuits about job discrimination, and if they find the claims to be valid, they attempt to settle the issue. EEOC protects discrimination against sex, race, religion, or national origin. This paper discusses three classes that are protected by EEOC.
EEOC rule states that no discrimination shall be issued in terms of sex. In America, females have been, in most instances, discriminated in the labor force. This is in terms of payment, recruitment, and work condition. In recruitment, females have low chances of being recruited in the labor force than men. This is due to the belief that women are less productive compared to men. The second form of gender discrimination is in payment. According to research, women were found to receive lower salaries than males doing the same duties. EEOC protects this group through its policy that states that women should be treated with equality to males.
Second, EEOC protects discrimination against race. The whites are the minority ethnic group in the US, and they have been advantaged when it comes to jobs. The blacks are the highly discriminated group in the US. Black people are most likely to be denied chances in job opportunities, not that they don’t qualify, but because of their ethnicity. Big companies like Apple, Coca-Cola, and McDonald’s have faced charges against racial discrimination. EEOC protects this group and ensures that they are treated equally to the whites in the workplace.
Third, EEOC protects discrimination in the workplace on religious grounds. The US is a multi-religion country, and thus no discrimination can be done on a religious basis. Discrimination against religion rarely occurs in workplaces. However, in most cases of their occurrences, they involve a denial of observing certain religious practices in the workplace. For instance, the Muslims keep Friday as prayer day, and thus employers should respect the practice and allow Muslim employees to practice their faith as they allow Christians to do so.
