Diversity and inclusivity of employees
Diversity and inclusivity of employees are considered as one of the crucial determinants of organizational success. This is because if employees are not motivated to work and cooperated with other employees, together with management, there is a high possibility that such an organization is highly likely to fail. This study aims at establishing the strategic issues of diversity and inclusion in the broadcasting industry. British Broadcasting Company (BBC) has been selected to be used as a reference factor given that BBC is one of the organization within the broadcasting industry which are well established worldwide. Hence the analysis of such a large organization can be used to study the broadcasting industry. This study has focused on the structure, mission, leadership, and vision of the industry to ascertain its employees’ diversity and inclusivity. The study has further covered various ways in which corporate culture, policies, practices, and programs seem to undermine or boost employees’ morale based on inclusivity and diversity. In the introductory part of this study, we have covered the BBC organization at large, starting with its services and products offered to customers, leadership, vision, and its mission as a company. Our analysis shows that their diversity of employees, as most of the employees working with the BBC, are from different backgrounds and religions. There is also diversity in products and services offered by broadcasting organizations as the information collected from the grassroots is also reported reporters at the field to gain access to fist information.
Furthermore, the BBC news and reports cover most parts of the world, with every region having its station due to the difference in the language spoken in the given religion. Media diversity has challenged media stereotypes as some journalists focus on the minority to cover them. This study has also evaluated gender equality in the BBC, starting from its management to the ground. The results of this analysis showed that diversity and inclusivity had been the center of focus on broadcasting in establishing its activities. This industry has also diversified the language used as BBC has a various radio station and TVs channeled that operates in the other regions of the world. The cooperate culture and policies have formed a bond between all staffs such that they work together to offer tangible results.
Recommendations
From the above analysis, the level of diversity and inclusivity in the broadcasting industry is at a standard level and that a lot needs to be done to ensure that there is equality and fairness in this industry. Some of the field that needs much improvement include;
The area of data collection and reporting; there is a need for the broadcasting industry to employ individuals who are social and can interact with citizens well to understand them better. Hence such reporters will not offer stereotype information toward minority groups since they know them better.
The broadcasting industry needs to venture into areas and regions that have no access to digital information and ensure citizens from such areas can access digital information using digital devices. Hence diversification of information devices will improve their lives.
There is also a need for a broadcasting organization to ensure gender equality in their management. For instance, the BBC should ensure that there is a female director in its top management to ensure gender equality.
There is also a need for all parties involved in the broadcasting industry to establish a universal corporal policies, culture, and structure, which will be used to regulate other small broadcasting industry in order to ensure that this field delivers what is expected. For instance, all the reporters should report without being a stereotype to minority groups.
