arguments from the proponent s and opposers of abortion

Abortion is one of the most controversial topics in every nation all over the world and more so in the United States of America. Different sides give their opinions concerning the debate on why they think it is right or wrong. People from the progressive side firmly believe that the women should be allowed to do what they wish with their bodies while the opponents draw their argument from a religious context when opposing the matter. Abortion is legal in some States, but the debate on the subject still goes on as both sides continue to hold their grounds. The paper will look at this unending debate and try to analyze the arguments from the proponent s and opposers of abortion.

Abortion is right as it affords the right over their bodies and their reproductive choice. The woman has the right to decide whether to and when to give birth, it allows them to decide their future. Declaring abortion illegal infringes on their right to determine the course of their life and to enjoy the same stature as their male counterparts

Abortion is murder; this is the main argument that those who oppose abortion mostly use. They believe that even if the fetus is not yet born that it is still a human being. Terminating the life of an unborn child, therefore, should be looked at as such, murder.

Personhood is achieved when a fetus can survive on its own outside the womb. Fetuses and embryos are dependent and, therefore, should not be considered as human beings. The unborn are not considered, for instance, in the constitution of the US as persons after all.

Abortion is the killing of a human being, and this goes against the word of God. Before the baby is born, it is already recognized by God, and therefore terminating it is going against his sixth commandment that says we should not kill. Most religions do not condone abortion.

Abortion allows women to terminate fetuses that have serious abnormalities before they are born. For instance, fetuses have anencephaly and other serious conditions. It would be unfair and cruel to bring such babies in the world. Many women do not have the emotional stamina or resources to support such babies.

If a woman becomes pregnant, they should be responsible enough to see it through and give birth. They should be able to live with the consequences of their actions. The unborn should not be the one to receive the punishment for the mistakes of the parents. At the very least, the woman should give birth and put the baby up for adoption rather than aborting it.

Abortion is a contentious issue that doesn’t seem to have any definitive conclusion in sight. Both sides have compelling arguments that are viable from a neutral point of view. Women do have the right to choose and decide for themselves, and on the other hand, we cannot refute the claims that terminating the life of an innocent human being no matter how small is morally wrong. From where you look at it, the issue will continue to be debated for the foreseeable future with no real answer.
