Hello Samantha, one of the essential tools used by nurses in the five-step nursing process is Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs. Nurses refer to Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs to determine the needs that their patients need at the different stages of the nursing process. Additionally, at the evaluation stage where achieving comfort and personal actualization is a priority, each patient seeks satisfaction for their personal needs (Craven, Hirnle, & Henshaw, 2019). To help in achieving these, nurses use the hierarchy of needs as stated in Maslow’s works. Furthermore, Maslow’s hierarchy helps the nurse in determining the level of care that each patient requires. In doing so, the nurse can evaluate the patient’s needs that are pressing and expect to be met immediately

Hello John, prioritization is an essential step in nursing as it helps in determining the most pressing patient needs and therefore seeking to satisfy these before the others. Prioritization is most useful in the assessment and planning stages of the nursing process. At the assessment process, the nurse seeks information concerning the patient and the kind of need they require. Therefore, at this stage, prioritization helps in determining the neediest patients in terms of care and attending to these before the rest. At the planning stage, prioritization helps to determine which health condition to attend to first (Alderman et al., 2018). For example, for a condition that results from an underlying condition, the nurse will have to attend to the latter first.
