Annotated Webliography: Agriculture and Antiquity

nytimes.com

The nytimes.com is the New York Times website that features various news articles. Notably, the article How the First Farmers Changed History by Zimmer is an agricultural article that has been featured on the site. The report highlights one of the discoveries that happened in a small village knows as Ain Ghazal. Markedly, the development is mainly made of human skeletons, which date up to 10,000 years ago. The area used to be home to the first farming families. Furthermore, families are considered to be the pioneers of agriculture. According to Zimmer, the families that dwelled in the area buried their loved ones beneath their house floors.

Correspondingly, the article is not biased or one-sided since it identifies other regions where agricultural pioneers existed. Although it recognizes the way of life of the Ain Ghazal villagers, the website also embraces the fact that first agricultural practices also occurred in Jordan and Iraq. The site also highlights the way of life and crops planted by an ancient Ain Ghazal villagers (Zimmer, 2016). Markedly, the first farmers grew crops such as wheat, barley, lentils, and chickpeas. Equally important is the fact that it also shades some light into the Fertile Crescent story. Over the years, historical evidence shows that agriculture started in the Fertile Crescent region located around Jordan and Israel. Therefore, the article considers different areas where agricultural practices first happened.

Moreover, the piece is insightful since it provides a historical explanation as to how agriculture became an economic practice. The article also offers the reader the archeological evidence regarding the origin of agricultural practices. The New York Times website is appropriate for academic research since it provides credible and reliable information. Furthermore, the topics and news articles posted on the website are current and up to date.

nature.com

Nature communications is a website that publishes articles that mainly focus on nature or the environment. In this case, my main focus is on an article written by Jose Araus, Juan Ferrio, Jordi Voltas, and Ramon Buxo. The material is insightful and educative since it mainly focuses on agriculture in the Fertile Crescent region. The information is similar to the first article since it embraces the fact that agriculture first originated in the Fertile Crescent region. Consequently, the report investigates agronomics and its conditions through the reconstruction of the cereal kernel general mass.

Similarly, the article is unbiased since it covers multiple aspects of the investigation. The study focuses on various factors such as carbon isotope discernment and the general composition of nitrogen isotopes in the area. Comparing the multiple factors explains why agricultural development in the region was slow (Araus et al., 2014). One of the highlighted problems is the low nutrient content in the soil, which slows the growth of plants. However, some of the solutions to the problem include applying manure, using domestic waste, and burning a native plant in the farming area. Therefore, the article is not biased since it identifies some of the agricultural problems while providing solutions.

Generally, the site is credible, and the information provided in them is up to date. Furthermore, the website can be used for academic search since the data is reliable and accurate. The information presented is also current enough for my topic. Besides, it also covers the different bases regarding the subject. Perhaps, it is because it is dedicated to nature-related topics.
