A class Divided Documentary
- How positive and negative labels become a self-fulfilling prophecy.
The Documentary of a class divided explores the division of a course in discrimination and prejudice. The division exposes negative and positive labels. Elliot discusses how students with blue eyes enjoyed the favorable treatment. The positive treatment makes students with blue eyes to feel superior. Contrary, the students with brown eyes felt inferior due to a lack of proper treatment. The results of preferential treatment make students more enthusiastic and faster in answering questions. For example, the preferential treatments of students with blue eyes made students shaper in day one than those of brown eyes. During the second day, the reverse to give students with brown eyes preferential treatments made them more enthusiastic. These positive and negative labels on either side fulfill the prophecy of the class divided.
Later in life, the students treat other people fairly because they know the results of unfair treatment. This fair treatment, based on the negative experience acquired, becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. The students have an understanding that positive experience encourages motivation and negative one demoralize.
- Do people face some destruction according to the prison seminar?
People endure destruction as a result of discrimination from diverse categories. Racial differences do not make one exempt from particular damage. The Documentary reveals that blue-eyed student becomes more enthusiastic when given some fair treatment. On the other hand, students with brown eyes become more excited when given positive reinforcement. The difference in eye color does not favor any of the group from destruction. Therefore, all races, including the Whites, endure some damage when given unfair treatment in different quantities.
I, therefore, agree that all people face destruction but in different kinds. The whites don’t know the pain of facing discrimination each time from what their race supports. The intensity of perception differs depending on its frequency. Black people face massive discrimination since they endure daily skin torture from other races. Thus, the whites face discrimination but not to the extent of the black people.
- Why any adult does not object when the exercise is done with correctional officers.
None of the adults objects the exercise because they were afraid as adults and the status to respond. The touchy aspect of the topic made it difficult for the guards to decide to agree or disagree with the problem. Being adults, they hold the belief that they would be looked upon in negative ways if they agreed to disagree with the topic. No adult cares about blacks or whites in any negative manner. Contrary, the children don’t have similar feelings to those of adults. In the case of children, they want to be accepted by what they talk about and how they relate with other children. Generally, the correctional officers could not decide to agree in disagreeing with the topic because it was too touchy for them.
- What was your reaction to the experiment? Do you think it is a good idea to help?
The application of the experiment is crucial to teach children the power of the label. The research further serves a vital role during the week of no cyberbullying, and it will help both children and educators. In my opinion, therefore, children will acquire the skills and powers to label through experience. Unlike oral skills, the application of the experiment leaves a long-lasting memory on the learners. The controls to the name are significant outcomes among learners since they help them develop social and robust characters in aspects of bullying. I support the experiment due to its considerable to learners and educators. In my opinion, the test will help learners to develop labeling skills on their own. It is, therefore, a good idea to experiment with educators and learners.
