A Crime Mystery Story

Dishonest investigative officer, consulting detective, and corrupt security officer working together as part of law enforcement within a given locality is one of the nightmares that the local community shall never forget for many decades to come. This is what befalls my community sometimes back when the insecurity cases became part and parcel of our daily lives. There were “three security officers” who worked and lived within our community and had the greater responsibility of maintaining law and order within the area. The “consulting officer” worked closely with “investigative officer” and one “police officer” attached to “investigate” various criminal activities that involved kidnapping and disappearance of kids within our community. We come from a diverse community within the whites constitute the majority of the population, although there are other races such as people of color (Black Americans and Spanish). Before the security detail within our community was reformed, there were many cases of insecurity and police violence within citizens. The demonstration became the order of the day with the community raising concerns about the laxity of the security officers to act immediately whenever the locals reported cases of missing kids.

The locals always lived in suspicion of the law enforcers being part of the criminal gangs that were responsible for the many cases of lost teens within the community but lacked sufficient evidence to connect the law enforcement officers with these cases. The Transnational Organized Criminal gangs had a well-established route within the community and worked closely with some few elements within my locality who would kidnap female white teens, kept in their houses, and transport the teens at night to the destination of their choice. The criminal gang that used to terrorize the community and take away the smiles of many families had a well-established route because immediately a kid went missing, that would be the end of the story.

There were many reported cases at the time, the investigation made, but the findings could not point a direct figure to a particular individual or group of people as the prime suspect. However, the locals always lived in suspicion and believed the police had a greater role in the trade of young white teens that had become a popular trade within my locality. Whenever there was a case of missing persons, the reports were made to the police and the three individuals (“consulting detective,” “investigative officer” and “security officer” attached to the two) who visit the scene, conduct their study, interact with the locals and record their findings and present the report to their headquarter but none of the cases ever yielded fruit.

The shocking facts about these three security officers include the number of cases that they conducted but failed to publish the report. These three security officers did not conduct an investigation on the missing person alone but also closely followed many syndicate cases of drug trafficking, which was popular trade within my community. Out of the numerous drug trafficking cases that these three security officers carried out, none of the cases led to arrest or mentioned suspected persons to the case. Despite the discouraging statistics, the locals would always follow the right procedure of reporting the missing persons to the police and request for their assistance in the investigation.

Due to the increased rate of disappearing white teens without a trace, many locals developed fear and would always accompany their children to school and go for them in the evening. However, all the approaches developed by my community failed to reduce the increasing cases of kidnapping. The kids were mostly kidnaped after schools, especially when they went out to play with their friends in the neighborhood. Others were kidnapped at the balcony of their homes with the people known to them. During any incident of the reported case, the three individuals would not miss. There were always within the vicinity. We still remember one incidence when one of the locals (a black woman within the neighborhood) categorically informed the parents of the missing white young girl of the last person she saw talking with the missing young girl: the woman described to the locals what she saw and the exact time of the incidence. Coincidentally, the parents of the missing girl indicated in their report to the “detective and investigative officer” that was the time when the girl went missing. Before reporting the case to the nearest police station, the parents of the missing girl raised the alarm and informed both friends and relatives to help them with the missing kid. They went around all the places within the neighborhood, including reaching out to extended family and friends but failed to find the child. They reported the case, and before receiving a letter of confirmation of the security officers to assist in the investigation, the three corps were already on the ground conducting inquiry among the locals and recording their findings to assist in making arrests of the possible criminals. It was during the period when the woman recorded the statement and informed the family of what had transpired that fateful evening. After listening to the case, the investigating detective and investigative detective, suggested the woman (the eye witness) be arrested and assist the police in conducting further investigation on the case.  Instead of apprehending the police officer adversely mentioned as the prime suspect to the case, the witness to the case was arrested and remanded for several weeks as inquiries into the case were ongoing.

Due to fear instilled among the locals, the gang coordinated its activities within the area, especially at night, without any fear because they had the protection of security officers. The three security officers responsible for conducting the investigation on the cases carried out inquiries on more than sixty cases of the missing white teens, but none of the reports was made public. Although the locals always had questions about the conduct, especially being at the crime scene immediately when a family notices their kid has gone missing, they always defended themselves and pleaded innocent for any kind of wrongdoing.

Like the many cases multiplied in numbers, the locals lost confidence in the police and came up with the alternative team that consisted mainly of young men whose main mandate to carefully follow the gang and counter their influence in the area. It did not take long before the citizens made their first arrest. A child went missing and the team and when the team traces how the tragic incident took place, they concluded that the child was within the community, and they ordered armed locals to surround the whole community and must not allow any person to leave before the search was completed. After an intensive search of all the houses, the group came across a two-bedroom that was also under lock and requested for the door to be opened, but one of the three security officers who were part of the searching group refused and tried to convince the people that the house was always under key and there was no reason for demanding for it to be opened. One of the old men who hail from the neighborhood in a faint voice challenged the police opposing the search to allow the locals to search the house to get satisfied that it was clean and not a hideout. The security officer refused, but the locals, through mob justice, proceeded and broke the door. Inside one bedroom of the house, there were around five young white girls that were among the recently reported kids that went missing. On the other room, were the “investigative and consulting detectives” that had followed all the cases but failed to make any meaningful arrests. The three security officers were arrested and apprehended for many cases, including child trafficking. There were all sentenced for manslaughter for cases relating to deaths of missing persons within the area.
