A Good Man Is Hard to Find
This article focuses on the short story “A Good Man Is Hard to Find” by Flannery O’Conner by analyzing the social problems in the story. The article has used descriptive and qualitative research to examine social problems in the story. It has found that the social problems in the story “A Good Man Is Hard to Find” are mainly due to social status as demonstrated by the grandmother- she is selfish and is doing everything she can to keep social status and other’s opinion on her; crime as demonstrated by the Misfit- he came out of the prisoner all member of the Baily family; family disorganization which is as a result of lack of communication and also lacking social connection within the family.
Hani’s article is providing a captivating perspective of the character trait of the grandmother by looking at the social class. In the draft, I had looked at the grandmother’s character and the focus in this article offers a better insight. I have gained a better understanding of this main character especially as selfish. It has offered in-depth insight into the character as selfish and who always wants to appear pleasing to other people. By looking at the social problems, I also gained an understanding of how Misfit helped the grandmother realize who she is at the end. I have therefore found several ideas and interpretations, as quoted in the article that I will incorporate in my final draft.
