Abstract Critique
The abstract contains excellent information regarding the issue of opioids, including its pros and cons. However, the abstract is general and fails to single out examples for each claim that the author argues. For instance, the article says that “the drugs are now also frequently being misused, resulting in widespread societal consequences due to their powerful addictive nature” (Abstract). Such information could be accurate but requires some supporting details. The author needs to have gone ahead to give us examples of “societal consequences.” If that is done, then it could be easy to substantiate the extent of such implications.
Secondly, the article relies on quantifiers with little statistical facts to support claims. Since this is a study that involves participants, there is a need to indicate how it was done, on whom it was conducted and what the results were. For instance, the writer could have informed readers about where they got the information they have written and how it was deduced. The author claims that the effects of opioid has led to enormous consequences on society but does not say how many members are affected. To make it perfect, they need to have come up with categories of those effects then show data for each group.
Finally, the scope of this study is too shallow, concentrating mainly on the US. Perfect research is one that goes further to examine the current status of a particular problem, comparing it to many countries or regions. Therefore, the researcher should collect samples from other places rather than rely on one country using control experiments. Doing this enhances high accuracy.
