The article provides detailed information about the added value process for an early collaborative design using simulation models in the aeronautics and automotive industries. The authors mention that the engineering process modeling is mostly categorized as an essential operation in many major firms globally. Also, the simulation models are utilized as the basis for the development process can often be referred to as model-based system engineering. In the article, there is a discussion on the approach that used demanded in the new organization on the simulation models and presents an understanding on how people interact thanks to the models and how they acquire the outcomes in content to the tea, that are large, spreading and sometimes diverging objectives. A very critical example discussed is how people usually collaborate in the design phases using simulation models.
The authors in this article also stand out that the main characteristics of the collaborative design using simulation models were identified. In several cases, there are no models that currently exist, which describes all the features for collaborative design in M & S context. The study has provided a great discussion and analysis of collaborative design modeling. It is focused on the modeling of three main features in collaborative design, which is concentrated in the modeling of three main features on the collaborative design. The study has presented the problem, and literature analysis on the added value processes for collaborative design in early development phases using simulation models were suggested.
For the study to yield the intended outcome, there was the use of the methods that assisted in getting the required results. These methods were modeling method and process modeling that were IDEF, the Critical Path Method (CMP), the design structure matrix, data flow diagram, and business process modeling notation, among others. The collaborative design process for simulation models suggested in the study was around fifteen activities, eight flows, and eight data roles. The article presents the proposed method contributing to an added value solution at three different vital levels. They include the operational level, which is the recommended process, which is considered as an improved input for the vehicle industry. The second level is the tactic level, which shows a suggested in the new process that ought to improve knowledge management in a firm. The third level is the strategic level, which is explained more on the existing industry process stated in state of the art.
The study presents the proposed process that helps to an added value solution at three different levels. These levels are operation, tactic, and strategic. At the operational level, the new process avid the rework duties at the creating level and fulfill the gap concerning capitalization activity. Secondly, the tactic level explains a clear vision of how and who does what is provided at the management level. It also states that people included in the process of modeling and simulation in engineering have a broader vision of how their work is valuable for the organization. Lastly, the strategic level entails the process can be integrated into the organization and match with the other method. The implementation and evaluation of the process in the collaborative is not a linear problem at all. Still, the recommend representation is highly suitable to improve a global understanding of the objectives and context comprehension. The simulation teams need to request additional information regarding the environment where their models supposed to be utilized.
