ADOLESCENTS HEALTH
A persuasive paper on a health care topic is to be submitted in APA style. This is a paper on a health care topic of your choice. You CANNOT choose the same topic as your informative paper; you much choose a new topic for this paper. To brainstorm ideas, take a look at Healthy People 2020’s Topics and Objectives (www.healthypeople.gov). You must gather research articles and information on your chosen health care topic and present this information in a cohesively written paper. A good research paper will utilize 5-7 scholarly resources, not including the Healthy People 2020 web site. Remember, a persuasive paper: • Presents one side of an argument and reinforces it with evidence • Must present solid verifiable evidence/data to support opinion, not just personal experience The general format of persuasive writing is: • Introduction: Discuss background of topic, introduce argument, and take your position • Body: Provide evidence to defend your position, refute opposition with evidence, and show why your position makes more sense •[unique_solution] Conclusion: Restate position in terms of argument defended and/or refuted and look at the problem through a bigger lens. Answer the question: So what? You may NOT write about the following topics (These are moral issues, so they are very difficult to discuss in an argumentative paper): • Assisted suicide should /should not be allowed • Abortion should/should not be allowed The grading criteria are listed in the rubric below. The paper should be 6-8 pages, not including title and reference pages. All aspects of the paper must follow APA style (including references). Paper must be in Times New Roman 12 point font, double spaced with 1 inch margins on each side. APA style must be used for all references and formatting. A note about Turn It In: When you submit your assignment to Turn It In on Blackboard, you will be able to view the similarity report. A good persuasive paper will have a similarity percentage of less than 20%.
