In the past few years, social media has developed from being a tool for socializing to being one of the best marketing avenues for many businesses and companies alike. It has been proved that it is one of the cheapest means for promotion and a very efficient way for various brands to personalize their advertisements and reach multitudes of people.

Most businesses are adopting social media marketing, though some may not have proper plans on how to approach using the platform as a marketing avenue. Nonetheless, social is almost free to use unless the company wishes to run a promotional campaign; they have to pay for advertising. Hence, businesses do not have any excuse not to use the platform. Moreover, it is easy to use. For instance, creating a profile takes less time, and one is good to post content daily without spending anything.

Using social media is effective in the sense that it reaches a multitude of audience within a short period. Moreover, feedback from prospective clients is instant, which allows the company to make appropriate changes to address the raised concerns. Additionally, the business can engage clients on a one on one basis and seek clarifications while addressing their concerns.

The downsides that exist in the realm of marketing through social media are that it is prone to abuse and can have a catastrophic impact on the business. This is because social media campaigns provide too much leeway for responders to share their views. This gives room for pranksters to hijack the process and share disparaging information that, in the end, hurts the company. In other instances, promotional campaigns require strict monitoring by humans; machines cannot filter all the undesired messages.
