Air pollution needs to be understood well

Introduction.

Air pollution needs to be understood well to help conserve the environment and even to act as a means of intensified campaigns to enlighten people to stop air pollution. Therefore, air pollution means contamination of air. This can be done by several means, classified as physical or biological. Air pollution is the release of harmful gases, smoke and even dusts into the atmosphere, which later affects the animals, plants and even human beings. Air pollution can be visible or invisible. Polluting the air is also seen as releasing any substance that has the potential to hinder the well-being of living creatures, which have their lives depending on the atmospheric air. These substances cause imbalance that hinders the survival of living things, by creating an increase or decrease in the percentage of atmospheric gases. This research assesses the causes and the effects of air pollution.

1Air pollution is caused by burning of fossil fuels. Fossil fuels include petroleum, factory combustibles and coal, which are rated the significant causes of air pollution. These gases are emitted from trucks, aeroplanes, cars and jeeps. Manufacturing companies also remit these gases in vast quantities that pose a threat to the environment. These gases include carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides and carbon IV oxides. Other gases include Methane coming from landfills, a gas emitted by livestock and natural gas industry, chlorofluorocarbons that are used in propelling aerosols and also used in refrigerants. Chlorofluorocarbons were banned in the year 1980 since they had a very harmful environmental impact. These gases have various effects on the environment, such as causing the greenhouse effect, acid rains and even climatic change. The acid rains deplete and change the soil PH value and nutrients, causing harm to crops, forest and even monuments, which are cultural icons, are damaged. These gases also cause respiratory disorders, such as difficulty in breathing, which to some extent, maybe very severe to create heart conditions such as heart failure and cancer. A child exposed to these gases is likely to suffer from pneumonia.

2Another cause of air pollution is through agricultural activities. Agriculture is a vast area that uses chemicals to ensure the crops are safe from pests and even to curb weeds. The use of ammonia gas in agriculture-related activities is an example of the agricultural activity causing air pollution. The use of pesticides, fertilizers and insecticides is harmful to the air since these substances emit chemicals that are harmful to the atmosphere. However, the primary pollution is from ammonia, that is released from fields that are heavily fertilized and even the animal wastes. This ammonia reacts with oxides of Sulphur and nitrogen, which forms secondary particles that are no more harmful to the environment. These have the effects of global warming, ecosystem degradation, land pollution, soil erosion and sedimentation and water contamination. These chemicals reach the underground water, which if consumed, causes a blue baby syndrome that may lead to the death of an infant. Aquatic plants are also affected by reducing the nitrate present in water; hence the end of these aquatic plants and animals. These chemicals also have the effect of throat, eye and nose irritation, especially to the person spraying them.

3Exhaust from industries and factories, mining operations, and indoor air pollution are also factors that cause and contribute to air pollution. Indoor air pollution comes from household painting products and cleaning products that emit chemicals that are toxic in air, thus causing air pollution. Suspended particulate matter, SPM, is another indoor cause of air pollution that comes from the combustion of plastics. Factories emit a vast amount of hydrocarbons, organic compounds and carbon monoxides into the air, hence air pollution. These factories also emit chemicals both to the atmosphere and to water. These factories do cause not only air pollution but also cause land and water pollution. Chemicals and particles are released to the air during mining, hence massive pollution of the sky. The effects of air pollution from these sources are, deteriorated health conditions of the people living around the places where mining takes place and even areas around the factories. The emission of these dangerous gases also creates global warming and formation of acid rains and eutrophication. Air pollution also has other effects such as asthma, emphysema, bronchitis and even mortality rates. From the study, most human activities are the primary cause of pollution. Therefore, I would recommend everybody to take the initiative of minimizing air pollution to have a conducive atmosphere.

Conclusion.

Air pollution is a global threat that does not only affect one region but affects the globe. The government, industries and even different people are making several attempts to help curb the intensity by which air is being polluted. Various companies have innovated and experimented unconventional and alternative ways to help reduce the factors causing pollution. Curbing global warming needs a lot of using renewable energy sources, limiting the emission of carbon dioxide and other gases that cause the greenhouse effect. The effects listed above have both short term and long term effects on human health and even the environment.
