An Affinity Group for Workers 60 and Over?
Key issue
Ron, who was the leader of people aged 60 and above, wanted the Power Energy company to take care of the workers who were above this age once they get into retirement period. This thought by Ron and his members was optimistic that Penelope, who accept it very quickly to keep the elderly workers in receiving the support, but this was not taken at their meeting and told them he could seek that thought if to subject affinity to the group.
Contributory Factors
- The initiative by the Power Energy to recognize the rights of different groups to subject them to sponsorship affinity was the reason why the workers of 60 years and above wanted the same company to give them that sponsorship once they retire.
- The power Energy company was making more profits that we’re able to sponsor many affinity groups that made Ron think of introducing the group of elderly workers of 60 years and above to be accepted to have their group that could receive this sponsorship benefits.
- The company places itself for a culturally diverse workforce that employed all people of various ages, and due to presences of other groups, the affinity group of years and above also formed their group lead by Ron

Root cause.
The issue of Power Energy company giving sponsorship to various groups like The Gay Workers Alliance to mention a few was the cause that leads the affinity group of workers 60 years and over to form their group and demanded to be included in the sponsorship program. The initiatives of other groups receiving encouragement and modest financial budget from the group was the driving force for Ron and his group to call for a meeting to request Penelope to include their group on those who will benefits from sponsorship once they retire.
Solution
- Penelope should introduce regulations that people who reach the age of 60 and above retire from the company so that to avoid complaints of them wanting to be treated as another group just as a means of receiving financial assistance once they retire (Simons and Macklin 2014).
- Penelope and Ron should help their elderly workers to have savings accounts so that they could use to take care of themselves once they retire and not depend on the company’s support.
Advantage
The company is demonstrating good leadership in accepting people from all diversities and culturally diverse this shows the company is not tribal and obeys the way of life each community is living, for example, taking gay and supporting them show the company recognizes every group of people.
Disadvantage
The introduction of sponsorship to different group affinities like Gay and the company not accepting to give support to people above 60 years is not a good show. Penelope should allow the retired employees to granted aid.
Final suggestion
- I suggest that Power Energy under the leadership of Penelope, should accept workers who are 60 and above years to form a group that will grant them sponsorship like any other group (Litsas and Tziampiris 2016).
