An interview paper
An interview is one of the tense situations that most people do not enjoy. I have had an experience with a disgusting interview that left me deeply frustrated. I once applied for a position in a nearby mall and called for a one on one interview. This was a part-time position, and I felt it was a valuable position for me to earn some money even as I continued with school. It was conducted by six panelists who were interviewing use and were taking notes. They were officially dressed, and they seemed to wear a radiant face as they observed us as we entered the room for the interview. The first round of the interview was just fine, and I passed it with ease. Some of the questions that I was asked in the first round of the interview was the ability to work well with people and my capability to give the customers top-notch services. I was also asked the number of hours I would be available each day and whether I shop at the retail outlet. These were easy questions for me since, even if I was not sure of my ability to work with people, it was effortless to say yes. The outlet being near my home is where we do our shopping. Therefore, this round of the interview was not hard. However, the next round was different from what I expected.
In the subsequent round, I was interviewed by the manager, who asked me a series of questions. The manager seemed rather stern and severe, and the look that he gave me was enough for me to skip a beat. The first question he asked me was what I would do in case I found a fellow worker stealing. I guess this was different from what I expected, but I reasoned quickly and responded that I would report the person according to the protocols in the company. The other question was slightly tricky for me concerning my level of honesty. The question was the amount of money that I have ever stolen. This was rather an off-guard question since I did not foresee it. In the pretense of innocence, I said nothing. However, I saw the complexion of the manager change, and he wore a facial appearance of discontentment and repeated the question once again. To maintain consistency, I said I have never stolen anything. He asked me whether I needed the job, and I said yes, and he insisted that I have to tell him the truth. I said that I have ever stolen 10 dollars from home. He noted and jotted something down. He dismissed me and told me he would get back to me, which he never did. I think I failed the test on honesty, which is vital in such a workplace. This feeling nagged me for weeks that I was not being honest and trying to cover up. The impression that I got from this experience was the need to be honest in the information that I give to my potential employers.
My cousin narrated to me one of the most fabulous interviews she had when seeking a job as a waitress. She had worked as a waitress for an extended period, and she knew it would be pretty easy for her to pass the interview. She was seeking for a job in a nearby small café so that she could get closer to her house. The small café was owned by an old Greek man who was also the interviewer. The first question that she was asked was about her experience in the catering industry. Because she had worked there for a long time, she took almost thirty minutes, narrating her experience in the industry to the man. The man was shocked by her response. She fluently answered the questions in detail and breadth and took such a long time explaining even the most exquisite details to the extent that the interviewer got tired and cut her short. The next question that she was asked was what her favorite pet was. She was perplexed for a while before she said that she liked cats. The man was thrilled by the response and complimented her positively. From the look of his expression, it was like he liked cats a great deal. He then moved on to the next question and asked her about her favorite meal, and again without thinking, she responded Texas barbecue. The man went ahead to ask her about her favorite color, and she said pink. She got worried because she did not know what the man was driving at, but she waited patiently for the next question. In utter shock, the man said that there were no more questions, and she should report in a week for induction before she could begin work. The interview was fantastic to her since other people had been interviewed before her. She attributed her success in the interview to the experience she had gained in the catering industry. My cousin noted that the impression that she got from that interview was that interviewers are mesmerized by the mastery of skills.
