About Andrew Chung
Andrew Chung, the founder of 1955 Capital. The company which has its headquarter in San Francisco invests in technology across Europe and America. Before founding 1955 Capital, Andrew was a partner at Khosla Ventures. At Khosla, Andrew focussed on the transformation of companies in technologies, health, sustainability areas and education. He has also served in the past as the director of Ambri, LS9, Stion, Wattpad, Cogenra, Ecomotors, and Lanzatech. While working with LanzaTech and EcoMotors, He pioneered capital-efficient model and started the commercialization of sustainable technologies that leveraged on partnerships with Chinese companies. Andrew has participated in several talks on sustainable technology including at the White House, Asia Venture Capital Journal Forum, Economist Innovation Summit and Swiss Economic Forum. He has also been a guest lecturer at Wharton, MIT, Stanford, Peking University and Harvard. At the same time, he holds an applied mathematics degree from Harvard University.
What has shaped Andrew’s Success?
Apart from being a company executive, Andrew Chung is also a successful musician. He has pursued a singing career after emerging the winner in Hong Kong’s music contest and becoming the finalist in national Chinese singing contest. Andrew is different when he sings the song “Billionaire.”Being a good vocalist, Andrew has been offered a contract form one of the biggest labels in Asia. However, he turned down the offer to continue pushing his business career. One of the most popular songs he has sung is “I’m yours,” which he sang at the Fillmore Auditorium in San Francisco. Andrew owes his success journey to his parents, who have taught him business skills since he was a child. Working at his parent’s restaurant at a young age, taught him how to relate well with customers.
Launching 1955 Capital
Andrew Chung decided to launch 1955 Capital to bring technology to the developing world. He purposes to invest in European and United States tech companies that will eventually help him solve challenges experienced in developing nations. So far, Andrew has managed to raise $200 million from limited partners. Some of the problems he plans to address include education, healthcare, access to food and pollution.
