Emert, P. R., & Sheehan, B. (2006). Banning gay books: Protecting kids or censorship. Respect: A newsletter about law and diversity5.

The author talks about the bill proposed by Allen. It says that the nation to ban all the homosexual books out of the school libraries. However, the law didn’t pass as expected because there was a low number of legislators in the Alabama house to support him. It is done to protect the future of our children.  It also was interested in preserving the traditional family value of America.  The government should take the mandate of determining what people read. The television and other broadcasting media and children television are in danger of promoting a homosexual lifestyle, gay relationships, and gay characters. They purpose to share information with the entire young American to know more about what is going on in modern America.  Besides the television, they move to meet the young people and families practically and share the information. Claiming they are in mission to educate the younger generation about different types of sexuality. Arkansas representative from the Roy raglan sponsored a bill that states the schools should not be allowed to use learning materials concerning gay families. It passed in the Arkansas statehouse and failed at the committee.

Other people urge that teaching children with various types of literature is okay; it creates equality, social friendliness and encourages tolerance and diversity. However, it is dangerous exposing children to such in there age will be a method of spoiling their character and the entire generation.  Another research Fox states that speaking of tolerance to young minds in school is like feeding with wrong information that makes them believe that every lifestyle is okay.  However, this issue is still an argument in the nation.

Holley, B. (2016). Random Ramblings-Does The Focus On Banned Books Subtly Undermine Intellectual Freedom?. Against the Grain24(6), 44.

The author is the appointed intellectual freedom leader. He supports the concept of publicizing banned books during the banned books week to create more awareness and attention to the public by treading them in general.  Libraries are allowed to exhibit banned books and sponsor readings from them to create awareness about intellectual freedom. Besides, make themselves public to the websites through bloggers and the press as well.

The author notes that most of the books are not banned; instead,, they are challenged, and they remain in the collection. Each challenge has an impact on intellectual freedom. Also, most of the books are banned because they are not conducive to read by children and young people. Rare occasion’s books are banned because of the adults. Adults have all the freedom to access materials of their choice. The challenge of books is mostly done to books related to children. Parents are the top complaining to protect children from exposure to dirty books at a young age. They believe immorality and other evil character is stimulated from what they read and see. The author urges that the library is the one that purchases books for it to be banned.  Part of the requirement for the book to be banned is that the library must have bought it.  Librarians are the decision-makers on what materials to be available to the children. And therefore, in the banned book week, the author motivates people to gather at the library for intellectual freedom. Lastly, the author states that focusing on the banned books makes intellectual freedom easier.

READ, R. T. (2015). The Books That Will Never Be Read. ALAN Review94.

The authors talk about schools and community and how education in classroom and libraries can be balanced in the United States across the multiple cities that collide in terms of culture, beliefs, and politics.  Censorship has the power to silence many voices in the curriculum that fights to find freedom of the diverse student population. It looks at what conclusion has been made about the content of books to learners and restricted in school. The author states some of the banned books have been successfully used in school, and what is very threatening are the books with sexual content above the learner’s standard. He adds curriculum should not be designed mainly for learners for a specific ethnic group. Instead, it should be standard to accommodate all. The nation is diversified and  education should consider all. The author states , that some of the books in the curriculum were so threatening. They  taught learners to be very aggressive and stand against injustice actions against them. All these skills were acquired from the book they read. Teachers had started developing injustice through hatred and used the same outrage to create racial division among learners.  It was very disappointing that lead to learners disputes their actions.

They believe parents who ban books are afraid, and they have no power of talking to their children serious and real matters like sex and violence. And politicians who ban books are evilly minded who want to manipulate parents and guardians to break through their political agenda. And that banning of dirty books provides a way for the community to protest. The action is supported by socialism, gender equity, and political correctness.  Also, he adds that we underrate young people and we want to decide for them what they should read according to our interests. However, children should be exposed to programs that are useful for their academic excellence and moral support.
