anti-discrimination acts
Discrimination is the unjust treatment that one, for example, an employee receives, which mostly is based on sex, race or gender. Flora, who was looking forward to working as a sales specialist, was asked to take a test, and it was not rightfully correct. This is because salespersons’ skills and knowledge are not tested in the math and general aptitude tests that she was given. Her failing the tests led to disqualification for the position, thus treated as discrimination as she could have been given a chance to showcase her skills on selling rather than being given other types of tests.
Title VII allows a test to be used during selection. Still, it should not be used based on discriminating against others based on gender, race, religion or culture. It feels like Flora wasn’t supposed to be given the test as they do not apply to the job she was being interviewed for (Campisi, 2019). The tests should be administered to the right internees in that according to the position one has asked for. Not all posts need an amplitude or math test to be able to determine who should be employed.
Other anti-discrimination acts have been put into practice, which includes the pregnancy legislation act in which expectant mothers are not to be discriminated during interviews. They are to be given equal chances and treated fairly. This is to help a fairground on employment in any organization.
There are various forms of sexual harassment discrimination at the workplace, which include verbal sexual harassment and physical, sexual harassment (Conte, 2019). With oral, there is the use of jokes or talks that imply things to do with sex and one may feel harassed as they may refer to different intentions. With physical, sexual harassment, there is the use of force to have the pleasure to go intimate with someone and may end up asking for favours in return. A boss hugging an employee for a job well done could give a different impression depending on the gender. When it happens to involve the opposite sex, then at the time it may lead to sexual harassment as the responses from the two individuals are different. One may decide to make the next move, which may cause the other party to feel harassed.
