Apollo 13 Movie Review
Apollo 13 film is accessible from the American film institute. It is an American docudrama film that was produced in 1995 by Brian Grazer and directed by Ron Howard. The main actors are; Tom Hanks, Kevin Bacon, and Bill Paxton. The plot is about Tom Hanks wanting to travel back to the moon. Apollo 13 film has won 28 awards in 58 nominations. The film’s budget is 52 million dollars, and its sales are worth 355.2 million dollars. William Broyles Jr did the screenplay, and the film builds on a true story. The theme of the film focuses on NASA’s’ first mission to the surface of the moon. Three main characters board a spacecraft to the moon, and others represent the crew on the ground and civilians.
Every day, scientists and astronomical companies are recommending increased space exploration to unravel the mystery of our galaxy. On the contrary, only a few understand or have experiences of how things could go haywire during such visits. The film portrays creativity.despite the fact the film is based on a true story, people who are not familiar with the happenings can clearly understand everything that occurred during the ill-fated Apollo 13 mission bound to the moon.
The costumes mimic those worn by the astronauts. Moreover, the ground crew acts in offices resembling those of NASA, and they perfectly represent officers monitoring and giving directions to astronauts. The film shooting is in similar environments to the real incident; the three actors board a spacecraft with different machines and equipment. Interestingly, the major actors float weightlessly, which is a common occurrence in space. After the aborted mission, actors land safely in the water with their spacecraft. A rescue boat and a helicopter pick them. The end of this film satisfies its theme.
Suspense engulfs the mind of the viewer when the three casts board the spacecraft. Before the bang, the three actors are in high spirits. On hearing a loud bang, Tom thinks that Bill had activated a pressure valve which he enjoyed to since it produced sounds which frightened his crew. However, on realizing that Bill is unaware of the cause, the actors are seen to be tensed since they did not understand what had happened, they lose Communications to earth for more than two seconds. However, the systems readjust, and broad grins are visible on their faces.
Kevin thinks that a meteorite has struck them, but Tom realizes there were no leakages. Despite being on a frigid spacecraft with oxygen levels decreasing fast and the risk of suffocation being high, Bills; tone keeps excitement and humor. The three actors’ reactions in this scene increase suspense and more inspiration for the viewer to find out what happens next. Since the film builds on a true story, a viewer’s mind gets triggering on how they would react in the face of a similar situation. The three major actors portrayed the roles of the specific actors successfully.
Cinematography depicts scenes of a real event, and the explosion provides an insight into the actual situation that occurred to the spacecraft. Moreover, the lighting used matched the scenes well. The music and sound effects used created a tense atmosphere. In this case, one can tell that something is due to happen before the explosion of the oxygen tank.
Several points of inspiration are evident in this film. Tom Hanks states that it was not a miracle that they survived the ordeal. Moreover, he says that they had to go since they had a dream to walk on the surface of the moon like Neil Armstrong. This statement encourages one that everything is possible. Furthermore, decisions do not depend on one position or resources but by their determination to succeed.
The three actors portray the value of teamwork on the spacecraft together with the crew on the ground. The spacecraft had to land back on earth, and oxygen was running low. Decisions made by the whole team based on experience successfully managed to land the team back to the earth’s surface unhurt.
If American space technology is achievable using unworthy tools, and the intended purpose is still evident. Therefore, with increased technology and innovation as it is today, it is safe to navigate and try out new inventions and experiences. Problem-solving is a necessary virtue in the face of trouble; this quality is apparent when an oxygen tank exploded en route to the moon. Facing poisoning by carbon dioxide accumulation, they still managed to land back to earth safely.
My verdict on the film is that all aspects are in place. Besides, the cinematography is beautiful. The plot is easy to understand. The actors perfectly fit into their roles. In other words, this film is suitable for all persons, especially those who are interested in astronomy. Finally, I would, therefore, recommend everyone to watch this film.
