APPLICANTS AND EMPLOYEES WITH DISABILITIES AND EMPLOYMENT AT WALMART
Question 1a
Walmart is a multinational company that operates retail stores and hypermarkets and has a large workforce globally. For any large organization, challenges are bound to occur. It is easy to forget about the rights of disabled people in a large company where a majority of employees do not have any physical or mental limitations. Walmart consists of over 2.2 million employees. Disabled people in Walmart become susceptible to discrimination due to the high rate of activities in the organization (Wexler, 2011).
Question 1b
Equal Employment Opportunity Commission upholds civil rights laws to protect employees against discrimination. Walmart hires a large workforce, which results in constant disagreement with the EEOC. The high margins of profits that Walmart makes motivates EEOC to persist with litigations. EEOC believes that winning these cases will build their profile and give them global recognition as a commission that protects the rights of employees. As previous records show, Walmart has been paying vast sums of money for clearing lawsuits (Wooten & James, 2005).
Question 2a
Since Walmart raised its salaries, making them higher than in other retail stores, employment has become more competitive. One needs to have good interpersonal skills to be able to interact and offer excellent customer services. One should also be competent, as well as have work ethics and integrity. Senior and technical positions require a college education and work experience.
Question 2b
Disabled people have high job retention possibilities. It is easier for an organization to retain faithful employees who would make the company not to incur recruitment costs. An organization that has people with disabilities receives tax incentives and other benefits. Just like anyone else, people with disabilities are productive employees.
Question 3
Other organizations should offer equal opportunities to all applicants. Walmart has become better due to its diversity in having a better workforce for the organization. Walmart has embraced a culture of respect, integrity, and excellent service delivery. Organizations should focus more on the skills of an applicant rather than asking inappropriate questions. After recruitment, organizations should seek to train their workers for their better output.
