Argumentative Essay on the Importance of Talking with Strangers
Many people prefer a “me time” when traveling because they would like to think and plan their activities. However, other people claim that interacting with commuters provides positive results, and one may have an interesting journey. As pointed out by Elizabeth and Michael in their article, I would support that people benefit from talking to strangers in many ways. A person may have an exciting experience, interact with great people, and also find a lifetime partner. In the paper, I will then claim that it is essential to talk to strangers while traveling since we get to gain much than having a personal time where one can lose.
Interacting with strangers is something that people should consider while traveling since one gets to interact with different people. As indicated in the article, the behavioral scientists, Nicholas and Juliana, reported that many of the commuters had a positive experience than the people who decided to sit on their own. It is evident because when two people interact, one gets to share the ideas, problems, or concerns that may encourage the other person. A good example is of a positive experience was when I was traveling to New York at one particular time. I interacted with one person who eventually I learned was the manager of a shoe company. It was through interacting with him where the manager offered to give me a job in his company during the summer break. It was a great experience, and through it, I was able to appreciate the importance of interacting with other people.
Interacting with strangers is also beneficial since it allows a person to forget about the problems he or she may be going through. Talking to strangers will enable one to discuss many current issues. Through it, the person gets to think about how to solve the problems that he or she is facing. The process may also give the person a chance to find solutions to the issues. As indicated in the article, eye contact may make the other person smile, and it is through it where one can have the opportunity to see the hope of a better tomorrow. People should then see a positive side of interacting with a stranger rather than deciding to spend time alone. It is a way of learning the experiences of others as well as many things about life.
I would, therefore, support that, talking to strangers is beneficial, as pointed out by Elizabeth and Michael. The government and other individuals may think that having a quiet traveling time is essential, but in real sense interacting with people is the most important one. It is because it allows people to share their experiences and problems they go through in their daily life. They also get to meet with great people with great ideas, and they get to learn from them. This could not be the case when people could decide and have a “me time” when traveling. Governments and individuals should then be taught on the importance of allowing people to interact while traveling since it brings more benefits than harm, and people are able to enjoy life.
