From the TED Talk by Shonda Rhimes, transformational leadership is about aspiring to achieve greater goals even when it means doing things that one does not like. Rhimes calls this personality aspect, which ignites the desire to achieve as the hum (Rhimes, 2016). With the hum, people are more motivated to say yes to things that they hate doing, provided it is crucial for the growth of a company. Through the effective application of the Hum, she had discovered the need to go against her personalities and focus on growth. In most of the cases, it reaches a point when leaders lose “the hum” consequently leading to dilapidated motivation as evident in the case of Rhimes and Jones. In such scenarios, the application of stakeholder theory becomes appropriate. Leaders like Jones needs to pay attention to various stakeholder relationships by identifying the roles that each stakeholder plays in the organization and how well they can be motivated (Mitchell, Agle, & Wood, 1997).
