Article Review on Logistics
Background of the Article
The selected article, The role of innovation in the implementation of green supply chain management practices, assesses the role of green practices in organizations has become an integral part of the supply chain management practices. According to Silva, Gomes, and Sarkis (2019), green supply chain management (GSCM) is currently an extensive strategy that aims to protect the environment while minimizing the practices that degrade the environment. The paper thus seeks to determine how processes and product innovation affect the relationship between GSCM and sustainability performance.
Methodologies
The researchers used surveys to assess data from 173 manufacturing companies to test the model hypothesis of the relationship between the variables. The variables were evaluated using various items on a 7‐point Likert‐type scale.
Resulting Analysis
Data analysis was performed using the Smart PLS 2.0 software. The first step of the analysis assessed the relationship between GSCM practices and sustainability performance, along with the relationship between GSCM practices and product and process innovation. The resulting analysis highlighted that green inbound practices and production practices have a significant positive relationship with a performance directed towards sustainability.
Findings
The findings of the study of the selected research people state that inbound and production GSCM activities have a substantial positive direct impact on sustainability performance. The findings also indicated that in this relationship, it is the production practices that have the most significance. Silva, Gomes, and Sarkis (2019) indicated that the results of the study are consistent with the previous findings, which underpin the fact that it is the manufacturing stage that holds the highest potential to have a significant impact on enhancing sustainability performance.
Conclusion
The study concluded that innovation is crucial when implementing GSCM practices in an organization. It is because innovation offers a new perspective into the process involved in implementing GSCM practices by applying the normalization process theory. Besides, the article suggests that normalization process theory is essential in enriching the theoretical understanding of the implementation process while fostering knowledge on how GSCM activities evolve as a response of adapting to the complexities in the supply chain management systems.
