Bath salts

Most bath salts are likely to be synthetic cathinone derivatives, possibly manufactured in Asian laboratories. Part of the problem with the whole “bath salts” issue is lack of pharmacological precision. Several distinct compounds are marketed as bath salts, with varying dosages and effects. Bath salts are a mixture of mineral-rich salts, including Epsom salt, dead sea salt, Himalayan pink salt, water-soluble. They are applied to warm water in baths for their cosmetic properties. Any bath salts made with essential oils give aromatherapy’s added value.

The chemical, generic and brand names

Bath salts have several brand names such as vanilla sky, cloud nine, ivory wave, among others. The chemical name for bath salts is Synthetic Cathinones.  The most likely stimulants to be marketed as bath salts are MDPV (seemingly the most common) Methylone Mephedrone, but tons of other chemicals may come under the “bath salts” umbrella. Generally speaking, they are reinforcing drugs that work primarily on dopamine and norepinephrine systems, which explains why they induce euphoria, anxiety, and more extreme paranoia and violent behavior. The drugs mentioned above have now become illegal in the US. From here, the cat-mouse game will continue. Soon we’ll see new, identical chemicals entering the market. As with the existing slew of bath salts relative to their illicit equivalents (i.e., Amphetamine, MDMA, cocaine), the new drugs are likely to be harmful and less checked.

The intended use

Bath salts were first discovered in France and were designed to be used for medical purposes until people started abusing them that they were made illegal. Medically, they are used to reduce fatigue and treat chronic lethargy in hospitals. They are not recommended to be used by individual users without advice from medical experts.

Its placement on the DEA Schedule of Drugs

Bath salts have been placed under the DEA schedule of drugs. This is because of its side effects on the body. Accordingly, placing them under abused drugs and rendering them illegal is justified. Bath salts are often abused, and people who use them to experience health problems, which ultimately cut short their life span.

The dosage and delivery to the body

Bath salts can be taken in different ways. For example, they can be smoked. They can also be snorted or ingested. Some people prefer taking these drugs through injection. However, taking by injection is not recommended.

How synthetic Cathinone differs with Meth

At the molecular level, both Meth and synthetic cathinones are very similar to the neurotransmitter dopamine. This causes euphoria and wakefulness. Yet Meth lacks a carbyl group presentation in cathinones like Flakka. It results in a distinct “high” from that associated with standard amphetamines. Including the carbyl group, Cathinone is similar to Amphetamine. The only thing stopping Ecstacy from being the same a-PVP (flakka) is a single hydrogen atom. Methcathinone is almost identical to Meth except for one atom. Bath salts aren’t a single drug. It’s a generic term for similar amphetamines and synthetic cathinones like MDPV, Methylone, and Flakka. They have few common uses medicinally and are rarely prescribed, if ever.

Pharmacodynamics (neuropharmacology; behavioral effects)

Whatever the mark, synthetic stimulants like these, legal or not, will always have chemical properties that resemble Amphetamine, but I think that’s where their similarities end. They’re not a clean starting hit. Whatever calming properties they may have, uncomfortable side effects such as nausea, anxiety, tremors, lightheadedness, stomach cramps, fatigue, heart palpitations, and a general feeling of agitation are some of the behavioral effects that user experiences. Taken alone, it only lasts an hour or so. Many people boost their efficiency by taking an adrenergic like Hordenine. Since it’s a research chemical that has very little or no historical information on the human body’s results, permanent effects on the brain, heart, and other vital organs are also common among its users. Some issues that have recently been learned about how bath salts affect the body are Renal failure and irreversible damage to brain receptors and concerns with potentially developing long-term depression and anxiety.

Another concern is that when it emerged, there wasn’t any medical review of precisely what this drug does to people and even today. Most information available is primarily from personal experience collections. This means you certainly get to hear about it when someone screws on it, but you also don’t get any long-term effects information. On the positive hand, you get a relatively large sampling of effects on different human biologies as opposed to a single vaguely-described statistical sample of symptoms.

The part of the brain bath salt affects and how it impacts it

Bath salts mainly affect the brain’s neurotransmitter system or put the nervous system. Bath salts function by breaking the blood-brain barrier and cause changes in neurochemical activity that influence the vision, behaviors, emotions, and mood of an individual. Their relaxing effect leads to sleeplessness that is hard to resolve.

People who use these drugs do not know what they’re getting when someone buys bath salts. They know that they purchased the crystallized packets of powder. A lot of people take the substance slowly while others drink it all in one or a short period, and that’s a horrible idea. Bath salts are not all right, but more drugs will also leave the patient with extreme reactions. But if the user doesn’t know what’s in the powder of quartz, they don’t know the chemical dosage they get. Bath salts act as amphetamines and increase levels of brain dopamine. Such higher levels of dopamine contribute to euphoria and energy. Yet blood pressure rises within the body; the heart beats faster and overloads the nervous system. The brain starts to behave in terror because it is not sure how to react.

Bath salt is associated with symptoms such as panic attacks, mood changes, and reckless behavior. This is the cause of increased brain anxiety. Several users have reported that their limbs are dropping; others have been found rolling around in traffic while others have been found dead. All because bath salts interfere with their brain function once it has attacked their nervous system, making them lose control over themselves. The lucky ones who don’t involve themselves in risky behavior aren’t apparent. Some problems can occur, as well. Since people with bath salts cannot settle in the brain, they continue to search for sedatives to help them relax. Sedatives such as Xanax can have extreme interactions with bath salts compounds, and patients are at risk for overdose as a sedative will have no effects on slowing down the bath salts ‘ calming effects.

Psychological issues

People taking bath salts are adversely affected by psychologically. Bath salts cause hallucinations, and this significantly impacts the psychology of an individual. When one takes bath salt, there is an increase in the neurotransmitter serotonin, which results in precipitating signs of psychosis – hallucination.

Medical effect on pregnant mothers

The fetus, she bears most likely also to suffer drug consequences if a pregnant woman is taking a legal or illegal product. While some medications are more harmful to the fetus than others, it is vital to remain drug-free or enroll in a recovery program if you are attempting to conceive.

During pregnancy, Cathinones should not be used as bath salts. Bath salts can be highly addictive, although the effects of Cathinone on a fetus are weak. Cathinones should be avoided during pregnancy because recent work has shown the presence of the drug in the fetal and placental fetal brains of pregnant mice after injection. Furthermore, too many scientists worried about the risk of the fetus if a mother uses bath salts. The bath salts can affect the fetus as they can enter the fetus placenta, its main source of food and oxygen, as well as the fetal brain. The toxicity of the placenta and fetal brain may lead to a variety of fetal problems.

Also, these drugs cause hormonal imbalances to the pregnant woman, which intron impacts fetus health. The euphoria, alertness, anxiety, decreased inhibitions, and angry or aggressive actions all form the psychological effects of using bath salts. While some of these emotional effects can make people feel good, they can have long-term physical effects such as hepatic insufficiency, renal damage, bone pain, severe depression, anxiety, mood ulcers, malnutrition, resistance, and dependency. Therefore, cathonines must not be used during pregnancy by women because fetuses may be affected as well as the health of the pregnant woman.

Screening methodology

Drug testing or screening is the only way to ascertain whether a person is using drugs or not. For bath salts, urinalysis is often done after 48-72 hours from the time the individual consumed the drugs. Many contract laboratories and researchers use liquid chromatography/tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS / MS), GC-MS, and Liquid Flight Time / Mass Spectrometry experiments to improve the qualitative and the quantitative test methods of bath salts in blood, semen, serum, and plasma.

Conclusion

Conclusively, ever since bath salts were banned in France, people have continued to use them illegally. Considering the side effects of bath salts such as MDPV on the individual’s behavior and psychological wellbeing, people should refrain from using them. The effects are dire, and it can further complicate the whole wellbeing of a person.
