Beauty and the Beast

Beauty and the Beast is a film of musical nature which was initially written by Gabrielle-Suzanne de Villeneuve. Alan Menken is the music producer of the movie while Tim Rice and Howard Ashman own the lyrics of the songs. It also exists as a book by an author called Linda Woolverton. I went to the theatre to watch the film on date five of December 2019.

Beauty and the Beasts narrates a story about a cold-blooded prince. He is transformed magically into an ugly being as a consequence of his mean ways. The creature is supposed to learn how to love a beautiful bright young lady whom he has held captive in his enchanted fortress so that he can return to his standard human form before he runs out of time.  One day after some time, Maurice from the neighborhood got lost in the woods and unfortunately landed in the castle of the Beast. The Beast retains him as a prisoner for trespassing. Belle, his daughter, sacrifices to replace her father in the Beasts castle. She likes reading and is ambitious about life beyond her village. Surprisingly the Beast agrees to replace her with her father if she promised to remain in the castle for life. At first their relationship is sour as the Beast thought of Belle as stubborn and difficult while she regarded the Beast as a monster. However, things changed after some time, and they fall in love with each other. This play shows that you can change your opinion when you discover you are wrong.

Belle has a standard attire, which is replaced by better gowns as she interacts with the Beast. The Beast wears fashion with heavy metal, which limited the performance of the male character vocally. However, when the Beast transforms back to a prince, the attire changes to a velvet suit of black color. Ann Hould –Ward designed the costumes of the play. She got her creative inspiration from the Rococo art movement and the original creations of the animators. Her creations were a reflection of how household objects looked like in the 18th century after conducting research.

The production set appeared precisely as the real film.  Mirrors of the west wing seemed ugly from the outside, but when the audience is inside, they look beautiful.

The play has both positive and negative insights. For example, an important lesson to grasp is that treating people in the wrong way might have consequences that we dislike. If the prince did not treat people in selfish ways, then Enchantress would not transform him into a Beast. He, therefore, would not have suffered as he did for many years. We should demonstrate love through actions. Belle displays love towards her dad by sacrificing her freedom for his. Time can make It is possible to change what we think about people. Belle and the Beast learn to love one another after they spent time together, even though initially they did not like each other that much.
