Biocultural evolution
Biocultural evolution is the process of evolution in the hominid that occurs due to biological and cultural interactions. Biocultural evolution explains how the nature of both cultural and biological factors influences human evolution (Hausman, 1982). Biocultural evolution is a result of the interaction between different cultures and biological factors throughout the hominids. It occurs in an abrupt process where the hominids develop gradually from simple primitive forms to more complex and advanced forms with influence to interaction with the environment.
Dual inheritance describes the transmission and evolution of a culture, which includes beliefs, values, and behaviors (Trivers, 1972). It is also known as gene-culture coevolution. Genes and cultures continually interact to form more complex hominids from simple creatures. Culture becomes adaptive, and genetic selection is caused to redefine to the cognitive architecture. The refinement of culture influence how it is stored and transmitted to other generations.
