Biomass and biofuel incentives
Global Biomass and Biofuels Incentives There had been several policy instruments, laws and regulations formed and implemented by the UK government and US Administration to promote the uptake of biomass and biofuels. As the world moves towards more stringent carbon reduction and global warming targets it is highly likely that biofuels and biomass will play a significant part in achieving these goals, but that within Europe national initiatives will be required to incentivise their uptake. The aim of this part of the assignment is to assess two existing national initiative models and: Demonstrate a depth of understanding of them; and Compare and contrast their pros and cons to develop a justifiable position regarding their effectiveness from the EU’s perspective for potential adoption. There are two specific initiatives in question: [unique_solution]In the UK – The Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI); and In the US – The Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS). Within this assignment, you will need to explain and discuss: The EU climate targets to be achieved under the Paris climate conference (COP21). Why an initiative such as the RHI/ RFS will be required to achieve it. The intent of each of the UK and US initiatives (including energy use sectors targeted and extent of impact envisaged); The methodology and financial resources each initiative employs to achieve their intent; What are the inherent issues associated with biofuels and biomass use and conditions/ limitations each initiative contains to address them; The issues that have been encountered with each initiative in use; and Which of these initiative formats, based on your analysis, would be likely to be the most effective in helping the EU to achieve their targets from the Paris climate conference (COP21 Use a typical report structure to present your findings: Introduction (problem statement and aim of study) Methodology (overview and evaluation of research methods adopted for the study) Literature review (covering data gathered for use in analyses) Results Discussion, presentation of argument, scrutiny of information gathered and evaluation Conclusion References The word count for this assignment is not to exceed 2000 words (excluding references)
