Business Process Re-Engineering.
In talking about the discussion topic, it refers to a management strategy in business and lays significant focus on analyzing and designing business processes and workflows within any organization. Its initial aim was to assist organizations to fundamentally have a capture of how they undertake their work in efforts to i9mprove service to customers, reduce costs of operation in strive to become world-class competitors. For companies to restructure their organizations, they need the use of BPR through laying focus on the elements of the ground-up design of their business processes. According to research, a business process implies a set of tasks that are logically related that are performed in defining a business outcome that is defined. Thus, as can be reckoned, Re-engineering emphasized a focus that is holistic on matters concerning business objectives and how processes that relate to them as they encourage full-scale recreation of various methods as compared to iterative optimization of multiple sub-processes. Therefore, as organizations look at managing their processes in gaining advantages that are competitive, they also need to have an understanding that entails their ways of doing existent things may at times not be the most effective manner. Therefore, in our analysis, our key focus area is going to entail talking about the principles to do with business process re-engineering (“Business process re-engineering”, 2020).
In looking at our job designs, flows of work, control mech
s as well as organizational structures, they all come differently within environments that are competitive and before computers came into existence. All of them appear to be geared towards control and efficiency that is key. As per the moment, paving the way to cow paths should be stopped especially in organizational structures. Thus, it is recommended that we apply modern information technology as we radically redesign our processes in business in efforts to achieve improvements that are dramatic in their performance. Therefore, what BPR entails is understanding the process goals fully before we dramatically redesign it up from the ground to achieve improvements that are dramatic in terms of quality and productivity. Thus, according to Hummer, organizational principles that are anticipated for include;
- Organizing around outcomes and not tasks. This implies designing the process so that if it is possible, then one person can perform all related steps. Instead of keeping repeating one step in the process, the individual gets involved in the process from the stand to the other.
- I was having those who use the process outcomes in performing the process. By application of information technology, many tasks happen to be automated in the process of empowering the individuals who need the result of a given process in an organization in efforts to perform it. For instance, I can provide the example of purchases in my company instead of having every departmental in an organization use the department of purchases in the ordering of supplies and having the supplies directly ordered by those that need the supplies by use of a system of information(Taylor, 1995).
- Subsuming work dealing with information processing to real work which produces the given information. For instance, if one part in a given company creates any information, for example, information on sales, then the same department should process everything.
- Another principle is the treatment of resources that are geographically dispersed as if they were centralized. With the effect of communications technologies, it becomes easier not to worry about physical locations. When talking about organizations that are multinational, several support departments are not necessary for each location anymore.
- Another principle entails the linking of activities that are parallel instead of making integration to their results. Departments that work identically need to be sharing data and making communications with one another during the moment they carry out their activities instead of waiting for each group to get done so that they begin comparing notes.
- Another aspect is putting decision points in points where the respective work is performed together with building controls to the given process. The individuals who carry out the practice need to have authority in decision making with the process requiring to have restrictions that are built-in by the use of information technology (“Business process re-engineering”, 2020).
- The final principle in organizational re-engineering involves capturing of information once at the source. This is because requiring data to be entered severally causes errors and delays. With IT, an organization has the capability of capturing it once and then availing it in instances whereby it is needed.
Conclusion
As it has been observed in our discussion, we have successfully made an analysis of the principles of business process re-engineering. Therefore, by application of the processes that I tend to use in my organizational structure, everything seems to run as anticipated in the achieving of organizational goals. Many of the principles of business process re-engineering have been linked up to businesses and companies and thus forming an essential part of good business -process management (Taylor, 1995).
