CAPITALISM IN FUTURE
Capitalism is defined as an economic system in which private individuals or corporates own means of production and distribution. In a capitalistic economy, a country’s trade is controlled by those who own profits, other than the state. Capitalism has been a tool for generating wealth for some individuals. However, capitalism has devastated the planet. It does not improve humanity in any way, but rather, take part in tearing the globe down. Due to the nature of a capitalistic economy, individuals strive to make on their own and safeguard what they have. This has led to the emergence of selfish human activities, as everyone strives to survive. These human activities are contributing to the extinction of natural resources and climatic changes that are adverse to humanity. Unless capitalism is changed, it is going to tear down humanity completely. This paper focuses on the future of capitalism and its impacts on humanity.
According to the projections by the United Nations, the world population is set to reach 10 billion in the next fifty years. The increase in population does not result in an equal increase in resources. Natural resources have been on a fast track to decreasing. Human activities are behind the extinction of natural resources. Commercial agriculture, development of infrastructure, and extraction of timbers are some of the human activities leading to the extinction of natural resources. For instance, the extraction of timbers has led to the loss of habitats for wildlife. The loss of habitat has led to the development of human-wildlife conflicts. The wildlife bypasses their boundaries and destroys human crops. The big question everyone is asking; how is the world going to feed the population considering the rate at which natural resources are getting depleted?
Similarly, human activities are a major contributor to the climatic changes we are experiencing. Commercialized agriculture, another production, has adverse effects on the climate. Companies are evolving every day in the world. Reliance on fossil fuel is on the rise. These activities lead to significant climate destruction. Recently, the rate which snow is depleting from larger mountains has been alarming. Technological advancements have led to the creation of more machinery. Some of them, like ships, contribute to the destruction of seawater by oil spillage. Therefore, climatic changes are a major cause of worry for the next fifty years. In the modern world, there have been serious fights for equality. People need gender liberations. They have been pushing their nations to recognize the changes in human preferences. We have witnessed the emergence of the LGBTQ community in the 21st century. States have been enacting regulations that are giving individuals more freedom. According to the recent trends, in the next fifty years, people will have excess freedom. This is because the state has been enacting laws daily. This means that people shall have the fr4eedom to do what they want. Capitalism has been at the forefront of designing this kind of system. Corporates and private individuals operating in the economy shall force the government to enact rules that favor them. The governments shall not be ready to lose the revenue generated by these corporates; therefore, they heed to their calls. Therefore, in the next fifty years, humanity shall have lost value due to capitalism.
In an article called Climate Change, Capitalism, and Corporations, it argued that businesses are intertwined in a cycle of exploiting and exhausting the world’s natural resources in creative ways. Large corporationsare still able to continue getting involved in activities that are degrading our environment, exploiting natural resources in the pretense of economic growth. Corporations have used the resources they have been able to garner form heir expeditions, into amplifying denial views, while creating an impression of scientific uncertainties that still exist. Corporates are entirely committed to the pursuit of economic growth. They do not care whether such activities are adversely impacting the planet.
Fund managers at global financial institutions own the majority of the public stock exchange. Unfortunately, these managers have no stake whatsoever in communities where these companies operate. The management control is constituted to few within the companies. This makes it difficult for common people to have a say in management. Overly, the individuals who do not have a stake in such institutions end up not gaining anything. The wealth generated from these institutions is divided among those within. Therefore, capitalism has led to selfish gaining by some people while leaving others languishing in poverty. According to research, poverty is a cause for human mortality increasing. Thus in the future, capitalism shall lead to many people being poor due to the selfish nature of the capitalistic economy.
Similarly, because private individuals and corporates control the capitalistic economy, consumers are on the verge of being exploited. These individuals who own such corporates are driven by profits and nothing more. In many instances, these people involve themselves in unethical business dealing, in the name of expanding their business. They dictate the market forces of demand and supply. In such a scenario, the consumer is at imminent risk. Some of the unethical dealings they get involved in include product hoarding. Although the hoarding of goods and services is construed as a marketing strategy, it has adverse effects on the consumers. The corporate may be tempted to hold goods for long, depriving the consumer’s such goods. When they release such goods, they do it in portions to increase the revenue. Thus, the consumer gets exploited. The growing trend of capitalism shall have reached its peak in the next fifty years. Laws and regulations signed by governments shall end up exploiting the consumer.
There is no possibility of having a society that is free politically. Capitalism is one tool used to enforce this. Many countries, such as Russia, have government agents who are capitalistic and act as agents of the state. Therefore, the big question regards the freedom of humanity. It is known that too much freedom is dangerous in our society. Capitalism is pushing for a free society. These people posing as state agents tend to push for so much freedom for individuals. Therefore, capitalism is pushing for the creation of a society that is free. Such a society is very dangerous and shall lead to misuse of this freedom, which results in adverse effects.
Overly, capitalism is a threat to humanity. In the future, capitalism shall lead to a very disruptive society. Capitalism has led to human activities that are very destructive to the planet. Therefore, it is highly beneficial for individuals in a society to forge a system that shall be inclusive of everyone.
