Question 2
The basis of the conflict is the racial bias that was directed towards Mrs. Ortiz by Rebecca. It is clear that people do not like others talking behind their backs, but this is actually what Rebecca did. Mrs. Ortiz is Spanish speaking, and as a result, Rebecca assumed that she did not understand English and what she said was not really in good taste since the idea of claiming that Mrs. Ortiz has been unable to handle their children hence the reason they were playing around in the facility. Still, in reality, it is children’s nature to be playful; thus, it had nothing to do with the race or the background or Mrs. Ortiz.
The unethical aspect of the issue is that Rebecca should have explained to Mrs. Ortiz the need to keep hold of her children instead of letting them play around since it was dangerous in the facility rather than talking at her back under the guise of the language she assumed that Mrs. Ortiz did not understand English. It is terrible that she decided to speak to someone else instead of directly telling her. She is an employee, and since Mrs. Ortiz is a customer, she would have talked to her nicely over the issue as opposed to the manner she did, which made her fail to use the services.
Question 3
The parties in the conflict are Rebecca, who is the unethical employee, and Mrs. Ortiz, the customer at the facility.
Question 4
If I was in Rebecca’s position, I would have used a collaboration style of negation. Under this style, my aim would have been to come up with a way where both of us would have been happy. Mrs. Ortiz would have been satisfied and equally would have been satisfied. It is clear that there is a need for her to be satisfied so that she could be able to come back to the facility as a loyal client. At the same time, there was a need for the children to stop playing around to ensure a better working environment for all of us. I would have walked to her, excused myself, and explained why it was good to keep hold of the children for their own safety in the facility as well as for a better working environment for all of us. This would have been great rather than talking about her using the language I thought Mrs. Ortiz did not understand. I would have even gone to the extent of helping her explain to the children why they should settle down instead of running around for this would have meant that in the long run, we would have had peace and a better working environment.
Question 5
During my first few days at the university, I was psyched up and really wanted to study, so in my free time, I could pop up to the library and study. Some guy by the name Ahmed who is now one of my friends saw me and laughed at me by claiming that I was simply pretending and acting smart when, in reality, I was not. At first I was offended and I got really worked up. I wondered why he would just waste his time concentrating on me instead of doing his own things. I decided that instead of being offended on a daily basis, it was better if I solved the conflict for my own peace. I approached him and explained to him the fact that people are different. Just like he was a football fan and he spent a lot of his free time playing online football games, I was equally spending my free time studying for that was what I liked. He listened to me and he was even surprised by my approach. Since then we have always been friends. I learned that the best way to solve conflicts of any kind was through communication. People should simply express themselves as opposed to the use of force of showing hatred for those that do not agree with us.
