Article Review: Perceptual Foundations of Bilingual Acquisition in Infant In the article, Werker examines the foundations of bilingual acquisition in children where they learn two languages from birth. The paper focuses on how the children acquire two languages as their first language and how parenting styles have an impact on the acquisition process. Werker presents that children are biologically prepared to acquire language in their native language. It is noted that in the first few weeks and months of an infant, they learn about sounds and explore their native language. At this time, they use perceptual knowledge to extract words and start to know grammar. The article provides a review showing that children that grow up bilingual get to learn and know the properties if each of their two languages at the same time while keeping them apart. It is provided that perceptual learning helps the children break and differentiate the properties of their two native languages. Of my interest is how Werker concludes by stating that in case there are enough cues to which language is being used, then…
Analysis of Poems Relating to The Holocaust Death Fugue by Paul Celan In the year 1920, Paul Celan was born at Czernowitz Romania, and his parents spoke the German language. Paul went to study medicine in Paris, but he returned later to Romania before the outbreak of the Holocaust. During the Holocaust, Nazi Germany forced his parents to go and work at the Nazi concentration camp. Paul, on the other hand, worked for 18 months in a forced labour camp. Because of being unable to work, The Germans shot Paul’s mother to death and his father died of typhus. Paul, after escaping the camp, he settled in Bucharest and later in Vienna before returning to Paris. In the poem, we can notice the Nazi forcing the Jews to dig graves of their own, the efficiency of the Nazi killing machine, burning of dead bodies in order to save effort and space. The speakers have an ironic detachment, but we can realize the attitude is a result of having been worn down by the “black milk.” The guards kill and beat…
Differences between Rock Concert from Modern Times and Baroque Music There are three main musical periods, which include the romantic era, the classical era, and the impressionist era. The first era was the classical era, which occurred in the mid and late 18th century. The second era was the romantic era, which occurred in the 19th century. The impressionist era was the third era and occurred in the 20th century. Amongst the three eras, there have been two popular cadres of music, which include the baroque music and modern classical music. There are some differences between these two categories of music. Baroque music was primarily based on aesthetic rules, voice rules, and there were limitations as to what instruments could be used. Modern classical music, on the other hand, has divergent musical elements and involves the use of different instruments. The harmonies in the Baroque music are also similar and are devoid of any atonalism. The rhythmic flows are also not included in the Baroque music, but they are existent in modern classical music. For this study, I chose two…
The sale of magnetic desk toys Argumentative Essay Ingestion of rare-earth magnets by children has increased since the efforts of federal regulations to enforce the court ruling outlawed changes in the industry. The court ruled to lift the consumer product safety commission four-year ban on the product. As a result of the failure of the CPSC, the magnet industry uses voluntary safety standards, which reflects equality between business and safety interests. In most cases, the desires of the manufacturers outlaw the safety desires because they decide which safety option will maintain the utility, desirability, and functionality of the product. For CPSC to act, the voluntary safety standards have to affirm the inadequacy of a product, and this gives the industry a chance to win in most cases. The magnet makers wanted to depend on warnings and packaging designs to control the accident. Still, the safety advocates wanted the product to be so big that it can’t be swallowed or too weak to trigger organ damage. Manufacturers went ahead to form ASTM international, which aids in developing proceduralideals for products. It…
