Construction Accidents in the UK: Challenges and Solutions 1 Results and Data Analysis 1.1 Introduction This chapter presents an in depth analysis of the results from the study of construction accidents in the United Kingdom (UK) based on secondary data. Accidents in construction projects in the United Kingdom remain high, according to the statistics indicated in the reviewed secondary sources. These statistics pose a significant challenge to the well-being of construction workers considering that construction accidents cause considerable damage to the health of the victims, including fatalities. Despite the numerous regulations and safety guidelines provided by the various governmental and non-governmental organizations responsible for safety in the construction industry, deaths still occur in construction projects in the UK. Researchers noted that safety and health in the construction industry had been a critical challenge to the improvement of construction quality for a long time globally (Lee, Shariatfar, Rashidi, & Lee, 2020). With the UK having one of the best construction industries, accidents caused by the flagrant disregard for safety precautions and negligence create cause for concern for most experts in the industry.…
The Sahel Crisis The Sahel region has been variously described as a “one region, many problems.” The myriad of challenges affecting the countries in this part of Africa accounts for the description. A combination of factors such as drought, food insecurity and chronic malnutrition, drug trafficking, and the emergence of terrorist groups and continued conflicts causes instability in the region (Zyck & Muggah, 2013). Other problems include low agricultural production and high food prices, which call for humanitarian aid in the area to save the lives of many (Zyck & Muggah, 2013). The area also experiences instability caused by perennial conflicts emerging from political competitions that are primarily dominated by ethnic, territorial, sectarian, interstate, and local dispositions and affiliations (Zyck & Muggah, 2013). To restore stability in the region, an integrated approach to stabilization of the Sahel would be necessary. The problems are multi-faceted hence the need for a consorted approach to mitigate the different unique issues. All the stability functions outlined in JP 3-07, security, foreign humanitarian assistance, economic stabilization and infrastructure, the rule of law, governance and participation,…

The subprime mortgages foreclosure led to losses in the financial sector, hence sparking the financial crisis. The policies suggested concentrated on three facets; liquidity, corporate, and capital structure (Eubanks, 2010). This essay will focus on determining if the European Union structures in banking and supervisory were sufficient in dealing with the debt crisis. European Central Bank and European Commission are the primary federal institutions that formulated the decisive policies. The first was the six-pack legislative package focused on the governance of the economy to improve liquidity. Austerity measures were also put in place to help the member nations recover from the debt crisis (Govaere et al., 2011). The EU also adopted the two-pack structure in May 2013, which concentrated on supervising the financial sector within the EU. The…

The Environment and the Economy Our economy has relied on growth and consumerism for quite some time now. A society has been built full of consumers to provide a basis with which to keep profits high, and when they do go down, to expand by increasing production. Maintaining this system comes at a price, though. Not only has our environment been seriously degraded, but the rates of diseases, including cancer, are on the rise. Only 10% of cancers are hereditary, so one can postulate that the other 90% must be attributed to various environmental factors which are due to releases of toxic chemicals into nearby waterways by corporations to, once again, keep profits high. The focus, from the government as well as non-profit groups, has been to find a cure for cancer rather than preventing it from occurring in the first place, thereby increasing the expenditure of resources. Preventing these negative human health and environmental impacts would mean changing our entire social and economic system. However, there is hope that this can happen in the future. The common belief in…

Managerial Economics, Pricing Strategies Perfect Competition 1.1 Description Perfect/pure market competition explains a market structure where competition is at its greatest level. In that market, there is a large number of buyers and sellers, firms can freely enter or exit the market and products produced in the market are homogenous, identical, and the outputs of products used in the production are not branded. This is the only market where the level of competition is at its greatest and neo-classical economists believe that it is the only market which is likely to give optimum outcomes to consumers. All the firms operating in this market are price takers, and this makes it hard for one firm to influence the prices of the products in this market. Other characteristics of the pure market include market share lacking influence on the prices of commodities sold in the market. In this market, both the buyer and the seller have all the kind of information which they need about a particular product. The information of past, present and future prices are known to both buyers…
MANAGEMENT AND SHOP FLOOR PRACTICES AT AMAZON’S WAREHOUSES Introduction There are a lot of businesses in the world today that deal with the storage of products on a large scale. As a result, organizations that have warehouses prefer using the shop floor so that they can bring out the usable, tangible, and superior quality products as the specification form the customers. Most of the organizations that deal with the selling of products store them in warehouses so that they can have easy inventories and fewer damages. However, when it comes to logistics, small businesses use the warehouse so that they can manage the supply chain.
