natural communication of animals and the range of studies devoted to learning whether animals, namely apes, can acquire language under human tutelage There is a distinction to be made between the natural communication of animals and the range of studies devoted to learning whether animals, namely apes, can acquire language under human tutelage (Hayes & Hayes, 1951; Kellogg & Kellogg, 1967; Terrace, 1985; Savage-Rumbaugh & Lewin, 1994). Vicki, a chimpanzee raised by Keith and Catherine Hayes (1951), demonstrated an ability to vocalise a few words (Mama, Papa and cup). Notably though, these utterances lacked clarity and were facilitated by the use of her hands to control her lips. Similar studies have shown that human speech is beyond the capabilities of animals (Kellogg & Kellogg, 1967). Consequently, it was questioned whether or not chimpanzees have the required neuromuscular structures to produce human speech (Lieberman, 1968). Chimpanzees; Nim Chimpsky and Washoe however, have shown the ability to understand and produce fragments of American Sign Language (ASL) when taught (Terrace, 1985; Gardener & Gardener, 1971). They demonstrated they could acquire up to one-hundred…
Criminology Research Questions Discuss the following three major ethical issues thoroughly in criminal justice research: Voluntary Participation, no harm to participants, Deceiving Subjects (327 words) Voluntary participation Voluntary participation is defined as the free will of research subjects to exercise their free will in deciding whether to participate in research activity (O. Hogan, 2008). It is one of the arising ethical issues in criminal justice research. The free will of participants is protected by international law, national law, and the codes of conduct in scientific criminal justice (O. Hogan, 2008). In determining whether participation is voluntary, criminal justice researchers need to pay special attention to the subjects’ socioeconomic circumstances. Learning the participants’ socioeconomic conditions is essential in determining the proper steps to be put in place to protect the exercise of free will (O. Hogan, 2008). Some of the factors that influence the free will of the participants include the ability of the subjects to resist pressure from authority figures, financial and another form of persuasion in the course of criminal justice research (O. Hogan, 2008). No harm to participants…

Challenges in Aborigine Education Introduction The aboriginal communities in Canada have historically had a very low employment rate as well as labor force participation as compared to the non-aboriginal population. The apparent trend was made even worse with the economic downturn of 2008 and 2009, as the aboriginal population was severely affected for a very long duration. The prime root that creates the employment barrier for the aborigine people in Canada is that of education as it is the social welfare determinant for the aboriginal communities. Though Canada is well known for having one of the best education systems in the world, this isn’t reflected within the aborigine communities as students of aborigine heritage do experience the lowest graduation rates as compared to others (Neeganagwedgin, 2013). The well being of the first community in Canada is a major talking point in the nation as efforts are being taken in terms of research about their issues. Despite this, there isn’t much action being done in addressing the problem of education despite media attention, fully focusing on the problem. The issue of…
What were your strengths in your presentation? (ex. interesting topic, language, etc.) The topic was very interesting and engaging. I managed to engage the audience during the presentation. The audience was attentive because the topic was not only interesting, but it also related to their personal experiences. Further, my choice of language and vocabulary was excellent. Social Learning Theory: a Historical Review Abstract The search for a theoretical model of sexually deviant interests has led to the emergence of many related theories. However this search has not yet found a unified theory addressing the causes of criminal behavior as related to the crime of rape, although attempts have been made to explain the same through various theories. Aker’s who was born in Jan.7, 1939 developed the theory of social learning as it applies to deviant behavior. He earned his Ph.D. in sociology from the University of Kentucky.
