Anomie and Strain Theories The term anomie began to appear in social theories from the works of French theorist Emile Durkheim. It started as a concept that explains the abnormal division of labor. It has become a significant idea in explaining the social consequences of huge, heterogeneous, and urban societies such as the United States. According to Durkheim, self-interest, limitless ambitions, and an insatiable desire for success directs the behavior of human. Therefore, it is essential to constrain human behavior to guarantee healthy coexistence in society. As a result, regulation is necessary to create clarity, security, and order in society. Therefore, for Durkheim, anomie means the breakdown of social order as well as an individual and collective loss According to Deflem (2015), anomie is a Greek word meaning lack of the law. Durkheim’s ideas have a significant influence on Robert Merton and strain theory and modern theories about punishment for criminal activities. philosopher’s views on the planet and will expound on the ultimate human reality A group of prisoners is held in an underground cave where they are only able to see what is in front of them. Behind them, a fire has been lit and also some men carrying objects that seem to cast shadows on the cave walls. All prisoners have been exposed to these images, and after some time, they come to think that the shadows are part of their reality.Later one of the prisoners escapes from the darkness of the cave, and after he reaches the sunlight, he was blinded by the bright light. After some time, his eyes start to adjust after he realizes that he is experiencing the outside world when all he had seen are illusions of shadows. Feeling remorse for his friends, he goes back to his friends to try and free them. However, things do not go as it is planned, since the prisoners kill him, thinking the shadow is part of the reality. This is one of the famous analogies of Plato,…
challenges women social groups face as they communicate social change Introduction Leaders of social movements often tell new stories to the public about themselves, other people going through challenges or unique situations, and concerning current issues. Because of their unique position to tell stories, they often self-communicate values and call others to action. The leaders communicate an urgent call to action for the values which they believe need to be acted upon immediately (Ganz, 2010). An endless number of women have engaged and taken the lead in social movements. Some have fought for the right to education, equal employment opportunities and pay, equal opportunities to take top management and leadership positions (site). Many such women have often faced retaliation because of gender and age, and opposition from other people, mostly their male counterparts who often seek to silence them by bullying and prejudice. Some of the women have even experienced violence because of leading or taking part in social movements in their efforts to communicate for social change. Some examples of female personalities who have taken the lead in social…

poverty is a predictable and acquired condition In the United States, so many people are convinced that poverty is a predictable and acquired condition, especially when one is from a particular section of society. This is a misleading stereotype that has led to the conception of the underclass in the country. The existence of the underclass is primarily a social construction and is often used as a political weapon (Ruggles, 175). Mostly, this concept is intrinsically linked to poverty and is commonly used to symbolize the elucidation of these state of affairs. Most of the problems surrounding the idea of the underclass revolve around the public understanding of poverty. For instance, poverty may be defined in a behavioral aspect where the people in this class are believed to be morally contaminated with no ambitions, and thus an economic burden (Rodgers, 13). This understanding of poverty makes it harder to find solutions for the poor in society. Therefore, the concept of the underclass of poverty is an ideological construction. Like many ideological constructions, it is not a permanent concept and may…
