Discrimination Against Women of Color, and how it Affects their Mental Health Introduction A cohort study was done to review discrimination of women of color and how it affects their mental health from five comparative epidemiological study sources. The extensive study focused on the several aspects of oppressive encounters such as racism, and sexual objectification. Similarly, self- esteem as a mediating remedy in these cases was fully explored, and ethnic identity strength was proposed to buffer the negative relationship between several forms of oppression. The positive correlation between oppressive encounters and trauma indicators were reviewed and the associations of sexist and racist discrimination with poor work outcomes, and mental health outcomes. Furthermore, workplace discrimination was indirectly attributed with poor work effects through the mediating tasks of perceived organizational support, and self-esteem. Experiences of workplace sexist and racist discrimination among women of color distinctly referred to as stigmatization, harassment or micro aggressions are related with lacking mental health and work outcomes covering minority populations. Within the vocational literature, studies from the Theory of Work Adjustment (TWA) has associated workplace discrimination with…
extended parallel process model theory In online advertisements, a fear appeal is described as a specific message that has been developed to scare a particular group of people that has been intended. This is done by describing threats that are very serious to the audience that has been targeted. This tactic is generally used in motivating the targeted group of people either to take part or not to take part in various behaviors that are based on fear. Various theories have been brought up regarding the fear appeal. These theories are the protection of motivation theory, the acquired fear-driven model, and the process that is a parallel model (“advertisement health appeals – Google Search,” 2020). Even though these theories do exist, there is one theory that overrides all of the other methods as it expands research and helps to make the fear appeal more effective. This theory is popularly known as the extended parallel process model theory, abbreviated as EPPM. This theory is interested in how threats that are perceived and perceived efficacy may lead to a specific change in…
Sociology: Moonlight (2016) How does the film demonstrate that race (as constructed and perceived) truly shapes life chances? Racial blackness is represented in the film by black and blue colours. Both black and blue served as both visual and emotional of performed, archetypal weakness and hardness. Characters struggled to place themselves in some ways of black and blue embody the dichotomy of ‘soft’ and hard thought the film. The performance of hardness and toughness is opted by both Chiron and Juan, which represented by their gangster lifestyles. This takes shape not only in the colour of their skin but also in their dress, especially that in black’s case. Black and gold shade all things he owns. In contrast, the film’s expression of softness and vulnerability in men like Chiron seems to be served by blue. During the night when a woman told Juan that ‘in the moonlight, black boys look blue’ and award him ‘blue’ as a nickname, they describe and discussed literally of blue during that night. The nickname that was given to Juan was rejected. This means it…
The Effectiveness of Theories and Research in Explaining the Challenge of Discrimination of Women in the Public Sector Literature Review The public sector has been under the radar in the recent past following several reports of discrimination against women. This derogatory trend has sparked debate and led to considerable research being directed to the subject of discrimination. The previous paper centered on the acknowledgement of the structural foundation of the discrimination of women in the public sector. It delved into the matter of anti-discrimination policing and equal employment opportunities as well as the management of this diversity. Public sector organizations have been known to privilege the men in the work places. This literature review examines through scholarly support the impacts of diversity, ethics, and cultural competency on the decision-making process related to your selected problem. The paper also evaluates the aspects of effective communication styles as applied to individual and group collaboration. The Effectiveness of Theories and…
racial discrimination and Globalization Social and political aspects may be used to form a prejudice against someone. Beauty has been used to describe people, especially women. This has created a social stigma whereby people are characterized according to their physical looks. Women are termed to be beautiful if they possess a good body. If people changed their opinions about the body, they would experience tremendous changes in their lives. People feel embarrassed if they are not confident about their bodies. This affects their self-esteem. But instead, if people could appreciate themselves and put away all the negative comments, no one would suffer from judgment by others since you appreciate yourself. Globalization has affected people, whereby it leads to racial discrimination. However, this can be reversed by treating all people equally and appreciating each other. If people accepted that no one is ugly, even globalization would be easier to achieve. People would also live happily if they could overcome their disability and accept themselves. The people living with disabilities are discouraged by other people. If they chose to drop those comments,…
TED Talk on Racial Discrimination The era of the slave trade seems to have left a lasting impression in the minds of many around the world. One of these impressions is the notion that white and black people can never be equal. These notions are so profoundly rooted that even blacks sometimes doubt their abilities. It would be safe to say that these impressions coupled up with the insecurities that the whites and blacks have are a primary driving factor of racial injustices that have happened in a superpower like America. Rather than judging people from the human perspective, they are judged by their racial affiliation. While this is hard to admit, it is the bitter truth. Recent studies indicate that Americans are not confident of racial equality in their country. Most African Americans cannot walk around the streets of their country without being wary of their surroundings. They are almost always worried about becoming the next victims of racial profiling. Six out of ten Americans are representing 61% of the population believe that the country needs to continue…
Gender discrimination in corporate boardrooms Introduction Business Law comprises every law that elaborates on how to start and manage a business. The subject of business law entails ways through which the government commences, operates, buys, and closes or sells. The role of business law is to formulate all the regulations that govern all business processes. Gender discrimination in corporate boardrooms Gender discrimination is undermining of the victory of the victims either to acquire a house, to get an education, engage in a conversation, or other life activities (Bruno et al. 2018). The topic of gender discrimination is broad since it also includes the measure or the number of women who hold corporate board seats. Additionally, the percentage of women and the number of companies with at least a woman on their boards can help determine gender discrimination within a firm. Throughout history, the fight for the achievement of fair gender representation in boardrooms has been about the principles of equality of treatment. The basis being the same treatment without direct or indirect discrimination. Enacting reforms that support equality can eradicate…
Persistent racial discrimination in the workplace Functionalism is very critical as it addresses constituent elements of the society that includes the institutions, customs, norms, and relevant traditions. In the early 90s, functionalism was highly criticized due to the lack of its capacity to account for social change or conflict and the structural contradictions. It was also condemned for ignoring some systematic inequalities such as class, gender, and race, which are the leading cause of conflict and tension in society. According to sociologist Michael Omi, the structural-functionalist framework is generally supposed to take the unifying role of culture and precisely the white man’s values in resolving and regulating conflicts. From this viewpoint, members of the society are identified as bounded, coherent, and having fundamental relations constructs that operate as an organism with all their different parts working together to realize a social equilibrium. Persistent racial discrimination in the workplace and other related social domains has resulted in an interest in the possible social conflict between different members of society. Unlike in the pre-colonial era, when discrimination and prejudice were widespread and…
Reasons for Continuance of discrimination Introduction Numerous news stories touching on racial discrimination in Canada have often angered groups and provoked government response. From asking children to remove their religious headdress to stopping members of minority communities, Canada is rife with racial discrimination. The is a thin line between overt and covert discrimination. Most discrimination meted against blacks is covert, and often known through reports by government agencies and non-governmental organizations. Most black people suffer discrimination on varied platforms from varied individuals and groups. The perpetuation of the discrimination is helped by social dynamics. Racial discrimination of blacks in Canada persists because of institutionalized or normalized discrimination, largely popularized cases of discrimination, and the tendency to seek and stick to black and African identities. Reasons for Continuance of discrimination Many people are at the receiving end of discrimination in Canada. About 23 percent of the people in Canada are victims of discrimination (Godley, 2018: 111). Discrimination based on race is one of the most prevalent discrimination and perhaps the indicator of prevalence. The most discriminated groups are blacks, Asians, and…
