Boundary Issues and Dual Relationships Introduction Boundary crossing is the violation of the usual and deviation from the norms. Boundary crossing is an issue of significant concern in various professional fields, mainly when it entails the exploitation of clients. A dual relationship is a situation whereby there exist multiple associations between the clients and professionals besides the area of specialization. This relationship leads to questioning, especially when there is a conflict of interest between the clients and the professionals. This discussion thus aims at determining whether these practices are ethical and appropriate. Boundary crossing and Dual relationship Professionals must understand the need to maintain safe, professional boundaries with their clients (Baca, 2011). There is a need to draw clear cut lines between the vulnerability of clients and the authority of professionals. Specialists often take advantage of their clients’ lack of knowledge or personal relationships to get a chance for exploitation. These are unethical practices that are inappropriate. However, if the dual relationships develop to benefit both the professionals and their clients, they are morally accepted. The bonds are thus deemed…

Ethical Issues in Qualitative Research Various ethical issues do arise during qualitative research. According to Sanjari et al. (2014), the researcher’s potential impact on the participants, and vice versa is a major ethical issue in qualitative research. Researchers spend a lot of time with the participants to observe and build rapport with them. However, sometimes the researcher’s interaction can increase the risk of bias from the participants or the researcher (Sanjari et al., 2014). For example, the presence of the researcher can alter the participants’ behavior. Also, cross-cultural differences can impact how the researcher interacts with the participants. If the participants come from a different cultural background, the risk is higher (Orb, Eisenhauer & Wynaden, 2001). For example, if the researcher dresses or talks in a way that the participants consider disrespectful, it negatively impacts the research process. Another ethical issue is confidentiality. When collecting qualitative data such as through personal narratives or telephone interviews, confidentiality can be compromised. For example, another person, such as a family member, may overhear the conversation (Sanjari et al., 2014). Informed consent is also…

Impacts That Regulatory Criminal Laws Have Had On the Criminal Justice System and Society The Government’s responsibility to defend the life and property of its citizens from exploitation is fulfilled through a code of criminal law imposed by a criminal justice system. Besides statutes that protect citizens, the Government also enacts laws known as regulatory laws that criminalize certain behaviors that are deemed to be not consistent with the best interests of society. On the other hand, five distinctive assumptions can be among existing regulatory models. The first regulatory approach targets the incentive-driven individual, whereby the dominant motivation of the individual is based on a cost-benefit calculation (LaFree, 2018). Consequently, the path of the regulator should focus on preventing the bad apples and providing incentives to the good apples. Also, the second regulatory approach targets the reason-driven individual where an individual who looks to regulators to be persuaded about the wisdom of engaging in a particular behaviour is the primary assumption about human motivation (Baker et al., 2015). Moreover, the third regulatory approach assumes that the dominant compliance motivation is…

Ethical Issues in Nursing Practice Nursing practice is governed by professional nursing and healthcare ethical standards outlined in the State laws/regulations, professional nursing association, and organization policies (Masters, 2017). In their daily operations and interactions with patients, nurses encounter an ethical dilemma and decision has to be made. While consulting ethical experts is recommended in many situations, some cases may require a nurse to apply their proficiency in nursing and health care ethics to make an appropriate decision. The essay examines some ethical issues in the nursing profession, including identifying insights into professional boundary-crossing. Q1. Alerts to potential crossing or violation of professional Boundary             Boundary crossing can result from confusion or conflict between the need of the patient of the nurse.  Establishing and maintain a professional boundary is not a clear-cut process, but there are dividing lines to which nurses must not go beyond in their practice. Valente (2017) advised nurses to work within the laid down policy framework while giving care and interacting with patients. The red flags/alerts The nurse-patient relationship requires nurses to prioritize the needs of…

Ethical Dilemma in the Criminal Justice System Introduction The criminal justice is affected by several issues of ethical dilemmas. Every segment and department involve professionals like the judges, the police, the attorneys and even the paroles that make unrealistic decisions putting the integrity of the application of ethical behaviour and principles in question in as far as the administration of justice are concerned (Braswell et al., 2017). The permeation of instances of unethical behaviour and practice in the criminal justice system is rising at an unprecedented rate. From a critical perspective, there are instances where incongruous laws, policy statements and regulatory practices and values that have been formulated and implemented by the criminal justice systems distort the basic concept and understanding of what ethics are and the precepts of their application. The judges, who are charged with a noble task of making essential court decisions have been on a receiving end based on the quality of their decisions and judgements, what guides their choices and how they make those decisions and judgements. This implies that the level of unethical behaviour…

Reflection on Feminism As many people are fighting to coexist in their various environments, I still have a feeling that the primary concern is about identity. I also believe that the reason why many movements have arisen is one way of searching identity, such as feminists. At first, I thought that feminism was just a general fight for the plight of women in a male- dominant environment until I came along the feminist media studies. Through the studies, I have come to learn that feminism can be understood using cultural, political, and social perspectives (Appel, p.18).  On the issue concerning religion and feminism, most Muslim lady’s identity is classified by the wearing of the hijab and the headscarf (Ahmed, p.65). The issue has changed where nowadays I always see people that do not have an association with Muslim culture putting on hijab. Therefore, I believe that as the world is transforming, people’s perception concerning identity is changing too. Therefore, there will be a need for tolerance amongst the people that feel affected by such changes.   Work Cited   Ahmed,…
