Sexual Health and Multiple Forms of Discrimination Among Heterosexual Youth Eric Anthony Grollman Social Problems, Volume 64, Issue 1, February 2017, Pages 156–175, https://doi-org.ezproxy.lib.uh.edu/10.1093/socpro/spw031 Research suggests that inequality in material conditions contributes greatly to disparities in sexual health among youth; however, scholars have overlooked the effect of one manifestation of social disadvantage—interpersonal discrimination—on sexual health. This article uses data from a nationally representative survey of 15 to 25 year olds (N = 955) to investigate the relationship between interpersonal discrimination and sexual health among heterosexual youth. I examine whether exposure to multiple forms of discrimination (e.g., race and gender) is associated with risky sexual behaviors, as well as STI history, teenage pregnancy, and abortion history. The findings suggest that experiences of multiple forms of discrimination are associated with sexual activity, including early sexual debut and multiple sexual partners. However, discrimination is not linked with condom and contraceptive use, or the negative outcomes of (risky) sexual activity. These findings emphasize the importance of examining, rather than presuming, risk associated with youths’ sexual activity. Norms, sanctions, status, roles, culture and subculture Norms, sanctions, status, roles, culture and subculture, are among the fundamental sociological concepts that hold the society together and form the basis on which the society is anchored. From a sociological perspective, norms are social understandings that are informal and which determine and govern the behavior of people within a given society. Therefore, the importance of norms is that they shape the behavior of people in the society. Therefore, if an individual behavior defies the norms, this is perceived to be a disruption in the society, and it draws the attention of the members of the society. Personally, social norms largely determine the manner in which I carry myself and how I treat other people. Correspondently, sanctions in sociology are a mechanism that is used for social control, and they can either be positive or negative. Sanctions play a central role in regulating conducts and behaviors of people to ensure that they conform to the social norms. They are rather organized, and they follow recognized traditional and procedures. On the other hand, social…
Review the different Cultures of Athens and Sparta. Greek society has open waters with very deep harbors. This accessibility meant that the people of that community would become traders naturally and explorers (Weber, 2013). They also had high mountains which led to the development of polis (city-state), whereby the growth of each polis was different from one another. Polis was the structure by which people used to organize themselves. Sparta and Athens are good examples. Athenians were very thoughtful with great ideas and loved to study science, history, philosophy and many more (Fagan & Scarre, 2016). They emphasized much on art, architecture, and literature. They were also democratic whereby people shared power. They built thousands of temples and statues which showed their love and understanding of beauty. Life in Sparta was very different from the experience in Athens. Kings and oligarchy ruled them. They were very violent and practiced slavery. Their goal was to train the citizens to become hard soldiers so that they were able to fight any potential enemy or slave revolts (Weber, 2013). This left them with…

Self-monitoring in Communication The linear model of communication is faced with challenges that can only be beaten by a speaker’s ability to employ efficient figures of speech. The linear model of communication gives the speaker a priority over the audience in that the speaker does not receive the response directly from the audience. Complains and compliments from the audience in a linear model are only received indirectly, and in most of the cases, the speaker is not obliged to consider the reactions. Self-monitoring can be defined in the context of communication as a personal trait that explains the efficiency by which one controls and regulates the communication behavior for effective communication. Self-monitors are always concerned with the perception of the audience towards them. Rogerian Argument Based on CSR in the Business Environment INTRODUCTION Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) entails all the direct and indirect activities that for-profit organizations engage in order to benefit their stakeholder community. This initiative has been the subject of intense debate by scholars of the social and environmental impacts of businesses for many years. Some argue against CSR stating that is a ploy by the businesses to distract or even blackmail the society into ignoring the negative social and environmental impacts of doing businesses. However, proponents of CSR support the practice stating that is part of the business community’s commitment to influencing their stakeholder community positively while preserving the environment. PROPONENTS OF CSR One side of the CSR conundrum states that it is a strategic attempt to influence their stakeholders positively while contributing to the global environmental conservation efforts. The most common tactic that business organizations use in effecting a CSR initiative is identifying charitable causes such as children homes, sick community members, poverty-stricken regions, and infrastructural needs (Chatjuthamard, et al. 271).
