Differentiating Good and Evil The Road is an American novel written by Cormac McCarthy in 2006. The book gives a story of a father and his son, on a journey covering a couple of months in the post-apocalyptic era. An unspecified catastrophe that has destroyed most of the civilization and human life in the intervening years has hit the landscape across which the father and son are moving. A movement to the south appears to be the goal of the two travelers with the father knowing that the south is warmer despite the unclear timelines. The story starts with a flashback of the boy’s mother who is said to have committed suicide at the time of disaster and by the time the story begins, the land is covered with ash and deprived of life. A question is asked by the writer to the readers on the motivation behind the will to continue living even after the deprivation of humanity, culture, and society. The book, The Road is a combination of several themes that include the relationship between good and evil,…
problem of prison overcrowding as in the case of the United States The process of convicting and jailing prisoners is costly as it requires a lot of money and time to house the prisoners. Prisons help the inmates to learn essential skills that can help them to live well with the other people of the community without committing crime through the process of rehabilitation. A lot of money is required to ensure that prisons are in good condition, and therefore, if all criminals are sent to jail, a lot of taxpayers’ money will be used in maintaining the prisons. The money could be used in other nation’s development activities. Community corrections are sanctions that are imposed on some criminals in a community setting rather than in prison. Community corrections reduce prison overcrowding problem, and community correction programs allow convicted offenders to go through a correction program that can easily make the offenders to change their behaviors without spending too much money. Incarceration of all convicted offenders helps to keep the society safe by depriving criminals their freedom, but it is…

The constitution was amended through voting on 9th July 1868, according to citizenship, to people naturalized or born in the U.S. the Amendment covered even for the slaves who had freed recently. By Amending the law, the state was forbidden from people’s property or life without going through a legal process. Essential Question: Did the Puritans who settled in early colonial Massachusetts understand the idea of “religious freedom” the same way Americans understand it today? Why or why not? The Puritans who settled in Massachusetts did not entertain the idea of religious freedom as Americans understand it today. According to Mooney, the Puritans strictly “imposed a degree of religious conformity in Massachusetts far exciding anything the authorities in England were willing, or able, to enforce.” Puritans were motivated to create a Christian utopia where their pure form of faith could be taught and practiced. They believed that Massachusetts would become a model that would inspire old England into reforms. According to Mooney, they were so convinced on their faith that they thought irrational “to tolerate alternative interpretations of scripture if the Puritans already possessed the one and only correct interpretation.” Dissenters of Puritan faith like Roger Williams and Anne Hutchinson were driven out of the colony. The Puritans went as far as to execute a Quakers who insisted on preaching in Massachusetts bay. The Puritans also saw it as their moral…
