Slater’s Argument Slater’s dispute is compelling because his facts are rooted in science. Besides, he provides proof for all his arguments. For example, in his debate concerning psychopharmacology, (Jones 6) argues that when one consumes a drug that alters their brains, the results resemble those of neural implants. Nonetheless, he explains the treatment procedures like surgery that medics might use to rectify the condition. Therefore, Slater backs all his ideas, especially to avoid contradicting his theories. Slater’s Opinion of The Deep Brain Stimulation According to Slater, deep brain stimulation is a pain-reducing technique that has been used for many years. For example, (Jones 4) explains how Mario, after forty different sequences of treatments without positive results, resolved to use the implants. After a few weeks, Mario was getting more stable, and his condition improved. Thus, Slater’s perception of deep brain stimulation is indisputable, and to some extent, impacts my view on the issue based on Mario’s case. Consent to Medical Procedures When providing medical care, medics must receive informed consent from patients. Often, medical practitioners are the most favorable to…
Honey Grow Case Evaluation Decision-making focus and relevance The clarity of the case presentation does not meet the 5Ws to start with. For the most part, the author has talked about the why, what, and where but has forgotten to mention the when and who. For example, the focus of the author has been on introducing the breakfast catering model, but it has not specified how this will be done who will do what and by when each decision should be made. The author, however, effectively talks about the situation that led to the challenge. It is clear that an increasingly competitive environment has forced the company to come up with the breakfast strategy. However, the voice of stakeholders and the role they will play into enabling the firm to move into the blue ocean is not well documented as it should be. Case data and presentation The presentation of the background information is robust and comprehensive. All the selves of the company, market and industry backgrounds have been extensively covered. I am particularly impressed by the accurate analysis of…
Cat Article Summary Blogging, creating videos, and engaging in social media activities are some of the many ways that people participate in when they are online. In today’s generation, these activities are considered recreational. When the internet was first discovered, it was meant to be a method for people to find answers and communicate with others from faraway places in a much convenient way. However, in one way or another, the internet has brought people together and torn them apart as well. Mary, in this article, is using blogging as an opportunity to meet and interact with others. She has written a blog about lolcats during her retirement. This is where people can view and comment on the images they are seeing. Mary’s blog (icanhascheezbuger.com) contains around 12 users who seem to have been active participants over the years. Mary has even gone ahead to meet with some of them in person. Mary created a “cheezland” where she can receive personalized updates and from her participants and find a way to put them on her blog. This enabled the group…
Caterpillar Inc. Background and Introduction Caterpillar Inc. was established in 1925. It is the world’s leading manufacturer of construction and mining equipment, diesel and natural gas engines, diesel-electric locomotives, and industrial gas turbines. The company invests in cutting-edge technology so to make its products highly effective in the industry. Its sales revenue for 2019 was $53.8 billion (Caterpillar, 2020). It is necessary to assess the strategy of the company to establish the level of opportunities it has. Description of the Implementation process CHAPTER 3: RESULTS This chapter describes the results of the project. Precisely, it presents a description of the data collected, a description of the implementation process, and a presentation of the quality indicators before and after the change of plan. Description of the Implementation process The primary problem here was that patients generally took too long waiting at the radiology department. Therefore, the project was centered on reducing the amount of time taken by the patients in the radiology department. The porter who transfers patients to the radiology department and back to the wards always took longer than usual for various reasons. Thus, two interventions were undertaken to improve the patient experience by reducing the amount of time taken by patients in the radiology department. The patients started to complain about long waiting hours, which might affect the patient experience as well as, in my opinion, will increase acquired infection in the hospital, which may lead to an extended stay in the hospital. Firstly, thinking of policies and guidelines, there is no specific policy that…
Chapter 5 Class Participation Marcy is at the tertiary circular reaction sub-stage, which is experienced at 12-18 months of age. At this stage, she is at the beginning of toddlerhood, and she is keen on exploring the world and learning more (Santrock, 2019). The situation is shown by planning, coordination, and experimentation. An instance is shown in the way Marcy was interested in seeing what would happen if she poured food on her puppy’s head. Babies first begin to imitate at the secondary circular reactions sub-stage. It is experienced when they are aged 4-8 months old. They start becoming aware of their surroundings and would, therefore, start to attempt to mimic the behaviors and sounds which they see around them (Santrock, 2019). The imitation becomes more pronounced as they continue to develop. Imitation is biologically preprogrammed. Once babies attain the secondary circular reactions stage, it is highly likely that they will start to imitate what they see around them. Telegraphic speech is a form of communication consisting of two-word long sentences. These words are often a noun and a verb…
Investigative Report: How Bias Affects Online Reporting Section #1: Identification of the Selected Topic The selected topic in this study seeks to determine if women are genetically stronger than men concerning the on-going COVID-19 pandemic. This is a controversial topic given that there are various schools of thought that have shown divergent compelling arguments. So far, so good, there are two conflicting groups of people as now as the issue of whether women are inherently tougher than men is concerned. The first group uses science-backed explanations in arguing that women are innately stronger than the menfolk. In contrast, the antagonist groups base their argument on the premise that by nature, men are wired to be dominant and thus are more genetically stronger than women giving them an edge in surviving the current pandemic. Section #2: Identification of the Profiles of Authors For this preliminary research for the investigative study, two texts were selected. The first text that was selected is an article published on a highly authoritative site, written by Annette Young. The title of the article is Coronavirus: Why…
PREMATURE BABIES Description Handling premature babies require intense medical attention, such as high-quality nursery care. However, in severe instances, medications such as surfactants are administered to premature babies to prevent respiratory distress syndromes (Newnham et al., 2014). As such, I handled a premature birth at a local hospital during my placement, which proved as the real opportunity to prove my competence. However, I was not alone since other nurses were present, and my duty was just to help contain the situation, thus saving the infant’s delicate life. The mother of the infant came in with severe labor pains despite being one month to the projected date of delivery. I took it upon myself and liaised with other medical personnel to have the expectant mother attended to by qualified health practitioners. In the end, we were able to save the lives of the mother and the premature birth, which was later placed under intensive care until it attained nine months. Feelings The experience of handling a premature birth made me feel the need to develop proper skills in handling premature birth…
Pressure Ulcers in ICU Patients Introduction Pressure ulcers are skin and tissue injuries that occur when pressure is exerted on the skin for a long period. They often develop on the parts of skin covering bony areas of the body, such as heels and hips (Alderden 2017). Nurses play a big role in helping prevent pressure ulcers in patients, and this has been an issue of concern in nursing for a long time. Pressure ulcers develop in patients as they cannot turn or reposition themselves, resulting in mechanical loading. The most common practice by nurses in reducing mechanical load and prevent pressure ulcers is the frequent turning of repositioning the patients. Current practice protocol requires nurses to turn patients 30˚ at two-hour intervals. The current practice of turning patients 30˚ every two hours is, however, not preventing pressure ulcer injury in critically ill ICU patients. Head nurses have a significant role to play in addressing this problem as the nurse leaders are accountable for cases of pressure in patients at intensive care units. As head nurse, it is important to…
Pros and Cons of Biometric Technology With the constant surge in the numbers of identity threats, biometric technology has quickly identified itself as a fundamental means of identifying individuals. Biometrics is the means of authenticating and identifying individuals promptly and efficiently through the use of unique biological characteristics. The Biometric 2 film highlights the advantages biometric technology poses to bring in day to day lives. Nonetheless, the film also creates arguments and questions as to whether modern biometric technologies are worthy of being considered of immense value. Essentially, in law enforcement, biometric technology is of relative importance to law enforcers. Biometric technology has played center stage in enabling enforcers in storing and retrieving data and facial recognition of individuals, of which has supported law enforcement agencies in mitigating threats. With the advent increase in interest for public security. The military has also opted to use biometric identification in knowing one’s enemy. The military has consistently used biometric technologies in identifying non-United States citizens on the battlefield. Moreover, biometric technology has proven to be of vital importance in travel, civil identity…
