Therapeutic Interventions for High-Risk Adolescents Introduction A myriad of mental health disorders begin to manifest in early adolescence or late childhood, and they may contribute to mental disorders even later in life. During adolescence, certain conditions or behaviors begin to emerge, which affect not only the health of adolescents, but they may lead to disorders during adulthood. Behaviors such as drug abuse, alcohol use, and even smoking begin at adolescence and are the reason for high mortality and morbidity rates. Mental disorders that emerge during this age bracket may sometimes lead to suicidal behaviors and must be addressed using proven and approved therapeutic interventions. These are programs or practices whose effectiveness has been tested and approved based on informed evaluation and research. This discussion will explain two therapeutic interventions that could be applied to high-risk adolescents with suicidal ideations. Benefits and drawbacks for the proposed interventions will also be provided. Therapeutic Interventions for Adolescents with Suicidal Ideations There are several factors that could cause adolescents to have mental disorders and suicidal ideations, such as anxiety, depression, isolation, traumatic events such…
Potential Signs of Professional Boundaries Violation In professional nursing, professional boundaries refer to the borders that safeguard the space between a client’s vulnerability and professional power. They are boundaries that distinguish nurses’ personal relationships with the people under their care. When the professional boundaries are violated, a nurse is said to be misusing his or her powers. One sign that a professional boundary is being violated is favoritism. This refers to situations where nurses treat their clients differently from the way they treat others. Nurses are professionally required to treat all patients equally and should not discriminate. When a nurse starts spending his or her breaks with a patient, or when they begin discussing private matters, it means that the professional boundary is just about to be violated or they have been broken already. If a nurse is violating his or her nurse-patient boundaries, other persons will definitely start talking about it. So when the nurse starts getting feedback from others that their behavior is intrusive or overly familiar, they should take it as a warning and take a…
Managing Risk as an IT Security Manager Question 1 As a manager, one should have the appropriate skills to run an organization effectively. The manager is an individual with the ability to mitigate the occurrence of crises at the organization (Whetten, 1998). Managers are executives with the intelligence to think on their feet to swiftly handle problems as they occur. Management skills help the manager better relate to their subordinates, easing the workflow in the organization (Whetten, 1998). For an organization to thrive and meets its targets, the management should implement excellent management skills. The most excellent resource in an organization is its workforce. It is, therefore, necessary for a manager to understand how they can effectively manage their talent (Whetten, 1998). As a manager, the outcome is not always the primary concern. The main purpose of any organization is to make a profit. However, a good manager knows that they need to motivate their staff in order to raise production and employee satisfaction as well (Cowie, 2003). A good manager identifies the employee’s best trait and takes the initiative…
Law of Contract Introduction A contract is an agreement between two or more parties. A legally binding contract involves agreements between two people that is enforceable in law. Many people come across contracts in their everyday lives. For example, in exchange for weekly or monthly salaries, employees will engage in a contract with their employers, in the supermarket, the exchange of money for drinks and food bought is also a case of a contract, and commercial contracts involve a case where suppliers are handed money in exchange of customers being supplied with goods (Peel, E. and Treitel, G. 2007, 1). Therefore the law of contract applies to the obligations and rights of an agreement between two or more parties – individuals, organizations, or companies). This essay will examine the case scenario presented between Haws Consultants and BKS Supplies while identifying key elements in a contract. The analysis is meant to advice Haws Consultants about their legal options. The Elements of a Contract Making of a Contract Contract formation starts with an offer. This may be an offer for money in…
The wheat market Introduction A market is a meeting point for both buyers and sellers, and through their interaction, they determine the price of a set of goods. A market structure is defined by the number of producers, ease of entry or exit, type of product and the degree of market power held by the producers. Most businesses around the United States operate under different types of market structures such as perfectly competitive, monopoly and oligopoly. A perfectly competitive market is defined as a market structure whereby there is a large number of independent firms that produce the same product. This type of market structure is common in the agricultural sector, for example, wheat farming. What makes the wheat market perfectly competitive The market for wheat is considered perfectly competitive because it has many different producers (farmers), and no individual producer can change the market price by either increasing or decreasing his/her output. According to the book Essential Economics by Hubbard and O’Brien (2015), other characteristics that make the market for wheat perfectively competitive are; The produce is homogenous (wheat).…
Cyber Insecurity: A Repeat Hacker Attack on Vertcoin Vertcoin (VTC) faces yet another cyber-attack where coins were double-spent with 603 blocks replaced by the hackers’ transactions. Understanding Vertcoin Vertcoin is a Bitcoin clone purportedly exhibiting ASIC-resistant traits due to regular mining algorithm changes. These changes occur as a result of a hard-fork. VTC boasts of a 12.5 million dollar market cap standing at the 194th position by market capitalization in the crypto market. Repeat Attack on Vertcoin Earlier in December 2018, Vertcoin faced a significant attack that led to a change in its proof-of-work algorithm. Since then, things seemed to hold up, up until December 2019. Just as the month started, the VTC main blockchain lost 603 blocks after which the attackers replaced them with 553 of their blocks. During the attack, the hackers managed to transfer 125 VTC, an equivalent of $29 to their wallet address. Salvaging the situation, Bittrex, Vertcoin’s busiest exchange by real volume, had a lockdown on withdrawals soon as they recognized the malpractice. The 51% Attack Explained It started as a significant increase…
How Related Cultural Artifacts evolve and affected by their Context or Location The evolution of performing arts and fashion cultures is significantly affected by their context and location. Culture is defined as beliefs behaviours, objectives, thoughts, and any other features shared by a group of people and which tend to influence their thinking and worldview. In the recent past, the popular cultures of fashion and performing artists have taken the world by a storm. The emergence of new trends in fashion and performing artists have transformed the worldviews about the long-held traditional culture across distinct geographical settings. The media, networks, and institutions have played a significant role in shaping fashion and performing artists’ identities across cultures (Lewens, 2015). This paper discusses the evolution of performing artists and fashion cultures, how they are affected by context and location, and the impact of the media in shaping the cultures. Music and fashion are closely related to fashions revealed through performance. The evolution of fashion has gained popularity through performing artists. The Hip-hop fashion emerged in the ’70s started a series of distinct looks…
Osmosis Eggsperiment Introduction Clinton (2012) defines osmosis as “the movement of water from a region of high solute concentration to a low solute concentration through a semi-permeable membrane.” The concentration of an area depends on the solute present, a highly concentrated area having more solutes than a low concentrated area. The movement of water will continue until both sides of the semi-permeable membrane are of similar concentration (Solomon et al.,2019). Water will only move across a semi-permeable membrane when there is a difference in concentrations; a term referred to as tonicity. Particularly in a cell, when the concentration outside is lower than the concentration in the cell or cytosol, then the solution is referred to as being hypotonic in relation to the cell (Raghunathan & Aluru, 2006). In this case, water will always move from into the cytosol until there is an equilibrium. However, when the molecules outside are higher than the concentration in the cell, then the solution is hypertonic, and water will always move out of the cell until there is an equilibrium. There is also an instance…
The California Gold Rush in Objects Before the Gold Rush, California was an isolated and remote place. With a small population, California suffered from poor infrastructure. To this end, Bethel (1998/1999) opines that “before the Gold Rush, transportation in the thinly settled, cash-poor, pastoral California was limited.” Due to the poor transportation infrastructure, there was an urgent need to improve transportation networks to support the movement of gold seekers and traders who moved to California in an influx, leading to a rapid increase in California’s population. In this backdrop, the need for an enhanced transportation system created incentives for developing faster and efficient means of transportation, as exemplified by the steamship. Figure 1. A ship of the Pacific Mail steamship company (Earl of Cruise, n.d.). In particular, the steamship revolutionized the transportation system during the Goldrush. Bethel (1998/1999) reports that “the fastest way to get to California from the East was to take a steamer to Panama, cross the narrow isthmus to the Pacific, then take another steamer to San Francisco”. The transport network using the steamship significantly improved the…
Transplant Tourism Advancements in organ transplantation have had a significant positive impact on modern medicine. Many lives have been saved through organ transplantation. However, the previous two decades have seen an increasing shortage of organs, which has fueled the development of transplant tourism (Tsai et al., 2017). According to Tsai et al. (2017), transplant tourism refers to the practice of traveling to other countries to procure organ transplantation that frequently entails organ trade or trafficking. In this vein, in 2007, transplant tourism accounted for 10% of organ transplants conducted globally (Tsai et al., 2017). As a result, the practice of transplant tourism raises significant ethical questions. While others consider transplant tourism as ethical since it saves human lives, some segments of society strongly oppose the practice because they perceive it as unethical. While organ transplantation is a commendable medical advancement, transplant tourism is an unethical practice, which undermines the value of the life of donors who are often financially underprivileged. In particular, I feel that transplant tourism is unethical since it entails illegal procedures and exploitation of the poor. As…
