The turn of the 18th century The turn of the 18th century was known in Paris as the “Belle Époque” or “Beautiful Age” due to the growth of democratic systems of government combined with the economic benefits of the Industrial Revolution and Scientific Advancement. Those who benefited from the changes shared a sense of optimism, while the specter of war and economic inequality led others to fear and resentment (Chapter 18/Module 2). The arts and artists expressed these same positive and negative cultural effects through their art forms showing either optimism and escape or pessimism and disillusionment/alienation. Choose a work from each of the disciplines (art, literature AND music) and show how the work illustrates either the positive effects (optimism, escape and/or scientific advancement) of the beautiful age or the negative effects (pessimism and disillusionment/alienation). Be specific and refer to the positive and negative developments of the age in your essay. Your essay should be 500-750 words. Be sure to support your response with specific examples taken from Chapter 18 in your textbook, the Listening Guides, and the Module 2…

Reasons for hiked usage of cocaine The sun article in one way or the other addresses the issue of rising in the usage of cocaine in the United Kingdom. The subject of a transition from easier access by the middle class to the lower class at higher levels, as a result, revokes a series of questions on the reasons for the change. The analysis takes a look at a span of seven years. The subject brings in a newer term: crack cocaine to help in digging deep into the subject. It arrives at that cracked cocaine was originally the sniffed thou injected in today’s society. It has not been mentioned that the British government propelled the increased usage of cocaine in adopting the “2002 crack strategy.” The budget cut is a profound strategy for a growing economy as was the case for the United Kingdom in the early 19th century. Biological positivism Biological positivism is one of the theories that has been used to explain the origin of crime. Crime is when an individual goes against the rules and the laws that have been agreed upon by a community of a nation. In trying to look into the reason why people commit a crime, the environment is a trigger, according to the theory (Dr. Kris 2020). There is an environmental factor that might trigger an individual to commit a crime even though the criminals make the decision to commit a crime. Environmental factors might be involved in provoking or restraining a particular behavior. They, however, do not cause the commission of the crime. According to Cesare Lombroso, ‘The Criminal Man,’ there are criminal behaviors that are motivated by an individual’s mental and emotional state. The individuals with emotional imbalance might be motivated to commit a crime by things in the environment, such as religion or certain occurrences. The theory suggests that people do not just wake up one day and decide to commit a crime or become criminals. There are…

Criminal Evidence   Presentation of criminal rules before a court of law follows the rules such as relevance, weighty, and sufficiency. Evidence should be linked to the case either directly or can be directive. It should also hold weight and can be used to guide the jury in making decisions. There are seven reasons for having rules of evidence, which include equality, values, fairness, efficiency, quality, emotions, and improper conduct. The three reasons I find most important are fairness, quality, and improper conduct. The rules governing presentation evidence should ensure that evidence presented promotes fairness when passing a decision. In my opinion, presenting evidence in a court of law allows the jury to make a fair and just decision ensuring that the innocent and set free and the guilty are sentenced. Therefore, evidence that will not heed to this policy should not be considered evidence. Another reason for having rules of evidence is quality. Evidence presented in court should be substantial enough to settle a case. Any verdict passed should be on high quality evidence. In my opinion, a case…

Reaction to the article by Wilson and Kelling (Broken Windows)             After critically reading the article, I have a strong feeling that it is very informative, not forgetting being educative. For instance, the piece is professionally written. Indeed, the authors of the article are very conversant with the issue of police and public safety. Notably, Wilson and Kelling stipulate well-thought arguments that are supported by evidence. Findings of intensive research studies also support the provisions of this particular article. I feel that the suggestions provided in the article should be implemented in the police department to increase safety. Firstly, I agree with Wilson and Kelling that foot patrol significantly reduces the overall mobility of security officers (Wilson & Kelling 1982). It is indeed difficult for officers in the foot patrols to respond swiftly to security alarms and emergencies. A large number of security guards indeed dislike foot patrols following the numerous hardships associated with it. Secondly, I agree with the two authors that there exists a solid relationship between disorder and crime in society. For instance, disorder and crime have…
