Challenges in Society
As a society, we face numerous challenges. However, two of the most pertinent are exploitation in a capitalistic economy and terrorism. Capitalism refers to an economic system in which private entities often own the factors of production. In society today, almost every institution is privatized. The problem is that private investors are unscrupulous. Therefore, they will seek to pursue their interests at the expense of society (Prensa par. 5). Terrorism is also an alarming problem. Indeed, the U.S. has experienced numerous terrorist attacks each year since the September 11 incident. The most recent involved two shooters attacking a Kosher grocery store in New Jersey, and Jersey City to be particular (CNN Editorial Research par. 13). Three people were killed in the attack.
I became conscious of the issue of exploitation in a capitalist economy after being employed in a position that demanded too much from me, yet the compensation was meager. Additionally, I became aware of terrorism as a severe threat in society following the 9/11 attacks. I deciphered that terrorism is a deleterious occurrence, given the massive potential for death and injuries, not mentioning damage to critical country resources. In light of this, it is relevant to convince people to pay attention to the two challenges.
A primary strategy to achieve this outcome is community education, which should be delivered through, for example, community workshops and meetings (267). Another strategy is the use of media. For example, a documentary that covers the two challenges could be made and distributed to everyone. The documentary film should reveal every facet of the two issues, including how detrimental they are to society. These two strategies will inevitably increase awareness of the problems, and prompt more attention to the challenges.
