Challenging binary ideology is necessary to improve the social and individual visibility of Others
- Support your argument with at least:
- three lecture concepts (a list of concepts is included on page three);
- references/illustrations from three different required readings; and
- references/illustrations from two different required videos.
Objectives
- to encourage students to demonstrate reasoned consideration of both the course theme (Thinking About and Beyond Binaries) and title (Gender, Sex, and Power)
- to provide students an opportunity to demonstrate their understanding of and ability to apply course material
- to challenge students to develop/strengthen their critical thinking skills
Content Criteria
- Papers must include a thesis statement, which:
- must be underlined or in boldface
- should be the last sentence of the first paragraph
- should explicitly indicate how you intend to support the Proposition
- Papers must reflect accurate use of course material, even if the use of illustrations from lecture, reading, and/or vmaterideo ial is interpretive.
- Any and all conceptual/lecture material must be explained accurately and explicitly (see the “Implicit vs. Explicit Use of Lecture Material” post in the Information Discussion if you are unsure what “explicitly” means).
- Any material that is not your original thinking must be cited (see citation formats on page two).
- Papers must demonstrate scholarly mechanics (e.g. evidence of proofreading, proper citations).
Format Criteria
- 3-4 pages Notes: You will incur point deductions if your paper does not achieve the minimum length or exceeds the maximum length; “three pages” means content extends to the very last line on page three.
- double-spacing (including between paragraphs – no extra spaces)
- 12-point type
- font: either Calibri or Times New Roman[unique_solution]
- justified one-inch margins all-around (including page one)
- any optional information (e.g. your name, paper title, page numbers) should be omitted or appear in a single-line header (point deductions will be levied if content space is used for any non-content information – and I do not need your name to be included; I will know it is your paper)
- paragraphs indented one tab (.5”)
- file-type: .docx, .doc, or .rtf (Rich Text Format) Note: if Carmen does not accept your file upload, it might be because your file-type is not .docx, .doc., or .rtf
