Change in Education
Education is a field affected by frequent changes day in day out. The constant changes in the education sector are motivated by the need to keep education at par with the fast evolvement of technology. The frequently changing nature of human needs necessitates effective changes in the education sector. The effectiveness of the changes in education is measured by the ability to conform to the requirements in society. John Dewey believes that education proceeds if the individual participates actively in the social consciousness of their race. The comparison of the changes proposed in the articles is based on the efficacy that comes along with the proposed changes for example the change in definition of education and introduction of civilization.
First, the definition of education needs to be changed. The definition of education should be both on psychological and sociological terms. The insubordination of any of the two definitions would lead to evil following (Dewey, p.78). The initial stages of education revolve around the child’s instincts and the power to get a sense of motivation towards innovation by the material given. The psychology of a child requires proper understanding to avoid confusion that may come with expectations that the child cannot achieve. Also, there is a great need for ensuring that the child clearly understands the social structure in the surrounding society. The civilization levels in the community give a glimpse of how far a child will go in embracing education (D’ambrosio, p. 47). The ability to translate a child’s powers in equivalence of the current civilization status makes sense of the need for education. The proposed changes in the article by John Dewey are not much different from those in Matthew Dylan. The proposed change is the introduction of technological gadgets into the classroom. The definition of a school is deemed to change according to the proposed change. According to Dylan (p.23), the US government has increased the funding of the education sector to levels almost equal to the funding given to the military service. The introduction of technological devices in education will change the traditional definition of a school. Basically, a school is a social institution that brings children together and creates a forum for sharing ideas from different races. The main idea of a school is to simplify the complexity of social definition so that the powers of children can easily be diversified. The proposed change of introducing technological gadgets in schools is efficient in that the ideas of children can be shared between learners and that knowledge is gained in the process of realization of powers possessed by the children.
According to Deming et al (p. 34), change in education requires accountability. The change in the education system is a process that requires patience and determination. The subject matter of education should be changed in that there is a significant difference between education and the already existing social primitivism. The child’s activity around education should not only base on the social ability of a child to get knowledge. The challenge with education is that the objective requirement of education has mistaken social activities. The change proposed that education should not ignore the social concept of a child. The social aspect of a child is sensitive in that introduction of irrelevant ideas through education can affect the way a child gains education. The value of literature and language studies losses importance if the social element is eliminated. Children should be taught on how to involve emotional and social abilities in education. The main issue of concern should always be on how to integrate the social aspect of a child’s life and the educational powers of children. Education should be a means of regulating the process of coming to share the social consciousness to ensure the method of social reconstruction. The proposed change is efficient in that it prepares children to accept change and be prepared to share the powers of education with other children.
The changing nature of human needs makes the education sector exposed to the need for frequent changes. In a bid to conform to the changing nature of requirements, the sector has to change frequently. Since change is inevitable, the education sector has to devise ways of conforming to the changes instead of avoiding the change. The introduction of technology into the education sector is a major proposal that is aimed at completely transforming the education sector. The proposed changes by the authors of the different articles are efficient in implementing change in the education sector.
