Christmas
Christmas is a full world holiday that is celebrated on December 25th. The date is chosen because it originated from the ancient Pagan Saturnalia festival, which is celebrated for the agricultural god Saturn with partying, gambling and gift-giving. It is a social holiday. Regularly, it is celebrated as a children’s holiday. It is also celebrated as a deeply religious holiday in some parts of the world.
There are Christmas songs such as Jingle Bells, Deck the Halls. Did you know that Jingle Bells was used to be a Thanksgiving song? All the people have Christmas trees. They also decorate lights on them. The Christmas colors are green and red. Santa is a big part of Christmas. Children all over the world get presents from him. He has eight reindeer: Rudolph, Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donder, and Blitzen.
Most people have Christmas parties to celebrate Christmas with stories and food. However, some people do not celebrate Christmas. Most countries of Africa use an alternate Christmas such as Kwanzaa. Jewish countries celebrate Hanukkah. Kwanzaa is similar to Hanukkah; they both light candles. Hanukkah has an 8-day range that is always close to Christmas. Some people even play Hanukkah games on Christmas eve, such as Spin the Dreidel. The game has four elements: Hay, Nun, Gimel, and Shin. Hay means take half, Nun says to do nothing, Gimel means to take all, and Shin means to put one or three in to the pot.
