Cinderella Man
“This time around I know what am fighting for.” A quote by James Braddock a boxer in the Cinderella Man movie who apparently was out-of-luck and beaten-up in the ring in the early 1930s making his career appear to have ended. Braddock alters this word after he decides to give it a last-shot and return to the ring to help his family where he responds to be fighting for milk for his kids while in a panel with the journalists. After numerous defeats the great depression set in, Braddock had a broken hand making him less of a boxer. He lost everything while scrimping on small fights and in the stock market as he tries to acquire cash for his wife and three kids.
During the Great Depression, his wife and kids had nothing to feed on for days but survived to starvation. James has no option but to work at the dock as a laborer, but with hopes to become a great boxer someday; he goes ahead to get relief from the government for his starving family which he later returns after returning to the ring. His wife Mae for years wished that Braddock need quitting boxing with fear of losing him or have a permanent injury making him incapable of supporting the family. Joe Gould a longtime coach and manager to Braddock sympathies with his status and decides to offer him a last chance to fight. Mae begrudges the move until she learns that Joe and his wife had a distressing moment during the Great Depression which forced him to auction all his furniture.
After Braddock decides to return to the ring, he becomes an icon of hope in a crumbling nation. A series of successful contests lead to a match with Max Baer, a vicious contender apparently known to have killed two men. Baer attempts to intimidate Braddock, but he unveils no fear saying that he knows what he is fighting for, not honor but milk to feed his kids. Lucky enough, Braddock manages to knock the invincible Baer out and emerges victorious. The family has enough to feed on, and Braddock decides to give back the government relief and later bought a house where he lived happily with his family.
