Claims making
Claims making is a process of interaction between two or more individuals where one party complains to another party about a particular situation that needs to be resolved. It entails an ethical approach of demanding for the rights of affected parties in a patriotic manner. Insider claims-making usually involves peoples’ who have direct access to the purposed change makers. Insiders can have a one on one conversation with those in power thus may affect the final decision making regarding a claim. They include group leaders of youth groups and lobbyists. Outsider claims-making, on the other hand, is composed of activists who protest or demand the intended services but have no access to express their interests to those in power. They lack publicity and normally depend on the insiders to deliver their requests to the people in power.
Social stratifications are the different social groups of people placed basing on their workgroup, wealth, earnings, education, leadership, and their general social status. The worth of people in a society is often measured by its stratification. Functionalists claim that a society is composed of various related parts with benefits to everyone. The various parts work independently, forming a system that brings about social stability. Conflict theory views stratification as a society that competes for scarce resources to suit their needs. This, in return, brings about inequality; hence society should coexist in power to maintain social order. Conflicts assume that stratification only benefits the few chosen and purports divisions in society.
A social movement is a team of individuals in a given society coming together to voice their grievances affecting society. Political opportunities allow the youth and women to voice their demands by allowing them to have power in the political arena. Through social movements, the younger generation can defend their rights to achieve democracy. Cultural opportunities, on the other hand, through social movements, can help a society eliminate ethnicity and promote unity. Individuals from the same culture often have values and norms best fitted for social movements.
