To sum up, the paper has given complexities concerning domestic abuse. There is further a statistical report which indicates that domestic abuse around the world happens to 1 among every three women. The paper further researched the possible cases of domestic violence that women and children around the world are exposed to, and the data were statistically analyzed. Additionally, the paper analyzed the impact of domestic violence on children such as the physical, emotional as well as the social impact. Engagement is very critical for the overall social work process. The paper further feels that there is still need for child-specific research to be conducted while factoring in other factors such as age, gender, race as well as considering the period and magnitude of exposure to abuse and how all these factors affect the life of the child. The paper found this area to have limited research that would give a reputable answer in regard to the matter at hand.

This paper concludes that the model of best practice in social work for children impacted by domestic violence is the processes of social work, and more in-depth research based on various variables of the victim needs to be carried out periodically.

Reflecting on Learning and Development

I have always had a great interest to study and do more research on domestic abuse. The primary contributor to my advanced interest in this field is as a result of personal experience as well as my desired to support others through DA. Additionally, as a woman, a mother and a student in the social work field, the paper has been a fascinating topic for me to write about at it gives me more insights about the future of women and children who continue to live in abusive relationships.

However, reviewing the entire study has been such a challenge to me. It is more so given about the reality of the issues and knowledge about the many women and children around the world who are subjected to regular domestic violence on their day to day life. Additionally, further research into this area on how children exposed to domestic violence are impacted, I have learned that witnessing DA is a more challenging as well as challenging topic that I initially thought.

Conducting a literature review on this area has given me a radical shift in relation to my perspective for DA and child abuse. I am now confident that I fully understand the relationship that exists between these two areas. The study has been interesting, and I am certain it will give me more insights towards my future practice. I acknowledge the presence of both TIC and ACES as well as having developed a trauma-informed foundation in terms of this study. I have struggled to complete the dissertation, which caused it to collide with other deadlines as I had outlined in the dissertation’s proposal. All this has, however, been a learning curve for me as SW profession requires critical time management. As such, it has been a priority for the development of the roles I have to take in SW and also ensuring I meet strict deadlines while working.  I also feel that my critical analysis skills have been improved significantly and thus professional developed the role I need to play in the SW profession.

I acknowledge the continued support I received from my fellow students my tutor throughout this journey. The skills learned are critical for my further development while in placement, especially about using one’s peers for support and also recognizing the importance of having supervision during the placement.

Dissemination of my Findings

As much as the dissemination of my findings is concerned, I intend to return to the children family placement in which I conducted my pre-birth assessment and present to them my final paper so that they can also benefit from the research conducted as well as inform them during their practice. I also intend to contact my Practice Teacher and inform them about the research findings to help them gain information and understanding about the effects of domestic violence so that they can present the results to other students in this field in future. Finally, I am willing to share my findings with classmates, colleagues and anyone interested in finding the impact of domestic violence on children and those interested in this area of study or work.
