The 68-year-old former movie producer is now in isolation after he tested positive of corona.

Rape convicted former celeb Holywood producer Harvey Weinstein has tested positive for the new coronavirus.

The information was made public by the chairman of the state of New York’s prison detention agency, Michael Powers.

According to Michael Powers, the 68-year-old Weinstein is being held in solitary confinement in the top-security Wende Correctional Facility east of the city of Buffalo, in New York.

Powers now fears for the prison guards, whom, according to him, lack proper equipment to protect themselves from the deadly virus. Several prison officers have already been quarantined.

On March 11, Weinstein was found guilty of rape and sexual assault and was subsequently sentenced to 23 years in prison.

Harvey Weinstein is accused of having sexualy assaulted former production assistant Mimi Haley and the rape of actor Jessica Mann.

Following the verdict, Harvey Weinstein was admitted to a Manhattan hospital in New York City for heart problems.

In addition, Weinstein suffers from diabetes and high blood pressure, says his spokesman Juda Engelmayer.

Two other inmates were also infected

A lawyer for the former movie producer, Imran Ansari, said Sunday night local time that the former celeb movie producer’s legal team had not been informed of their client’s coronavirus diagnosis.

“Given Mr Weinstein’s state of health, we are of course concerned, if this is the case, and we are vigilantly monitoring the situation.” He said.

In addition to Harvey Weinstein, two other inmates tested positive for the virus that has since spread across the entire world.

Elsewhere, Germany Chancellor Angela Merkel has intensified the fight against coronavirus in the country going by her recent announcement that Assemblies of more than two people are now forbidden in the country.

However, the so-called contact ban does not apply to workplaces and families.

At least 24,714 people are now registered as infected with coronavirus in Germany and 92 have so far died from the disease caused by the infection, Covid-19.

“The coronavirus is spreading at an alarming rate, and citizens must minimize all contact,” Merkel said while making the announcement at a press conference. “Our own behavior,” she said, “is currently the most effective antidote we have: to reduce public life as much as is possible, to reduce contact with people through whom the virus could be transmitted.”

“In short,” she said, “that’s how we save lives.” She added.

Merkel herself is a trained scientist, and she has since won wide praise for her calm and transparency during the crisis.

According to the new measures, restaurants that were still operational must now be closed untill further notice. However, picking up take away foodstuffs is still allowed.

Hairdressers, masseurs, and other similar businesses have also been ordered to shut down untill further notice.
