The US Republican party senator briefly interacted with a conservative event participant who tested positive for the disease
The Senator issued a statement on Sunday 8, which states that he had officialy decided to enter a period of quarantine after his contact with a person infected with the new coronavirus.
The contact took place during the CPAC (Conservative Political Action Conference), one of the main conservative events in the world that took place between February 26th and 29th this year. The senator stated that interaction with the person infected with COVID-19 was very brief.
In the statement he released on Sunday, Cruz stated that the interaction happened 10 days ago and he hadn’t experienced any symptoms so far.
He said he held a brief conversation with the individual and they also shook hands.
“I’m not experiencing any symptoms, and I feel fine and healthy. Given that the interaction was 10 days ago, that the average incubation period is 5-6 days, that the interaction was for less than a minute, and that I have no current symptoms, the medical authorities have advised me that the odds of transmission from the other individual to me were extremely low,” Cruz said in the statement.
